Mechanical Engineering Internship

Scot Forge Company is looking to hire a Mechanical Engineering Intern for the Summer of 2025 at the corporate facility in Spring Grove, IL. A Mechanical Engineering Internship at Scot Forge will provide a variety of experiences and exposure to the manufacturing environment, and application of engineering theory through project work. This internship will be part of an multi discipline team supporting the innovation group through their collaborative daily tasks to support a design project featuring material science mechanical testing equipment.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

• Mechanical design –

• Research and development for new processes and equipment

• Mechanical layout of systems/components (SolidWorks part & assembly modeling)

• Design and/or select mechanical components for machinery (gearing, shafting, bearings, linkages, frames, cylinders, tools, jigs, fasteners, etc.)

• Computational Fluid Dynamics – assist in performing analysis and interpret the results of fluid flow to aid in the design of furnaces and quench tanks

• Reverse engineer of existing mechanical components – analyze the mode of failure, accurately measure the component, redesign (if necessary), and create blueprints.

• Gain knowledge and understanding of internal and external manufacturing capabilities for the design of custom components and machines.

Qualifications:

Required Skills:

• Actively enrolled in a bachelor’s program, majoring in Mechanical Engineering

• Experience using SolidWorks and 2D CAD software

• Knowledge of blueprint reading

• Strong communication and organization skills

• Ability to work collaboratively across multiple disciplines

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:

• Office Environment/Factory Floor

Additional Requirements:

• Must be authorized to work anywhere in the U.S.

• Must be able to pass a 90-day head hair drug test today.
