Ultium Cells Controls Engineer Manager in Spring Hill, Tennessee

Ultium Cells Overview:

Ultium Cells, LLC. is a joint venture Lithium-ion automotive battery cell manufacturing plant between LG Energy Solution, Ltd., and General Motors. This high-technology plant is a new construction that will have the latest in battery cell manufacturing technology. This $2.3 billion investment will be among the largest battery cell manufacturing plants in the world. Ultium Cells will produce battery cells for General Motors’ North American electric vehicle applications.

Position Description:

This position will be overseeing a technical team responsible for engineering work that includes continuous improvement, investigating and troubleshooting equipment/manufacturing/facility problems, analyzing production results, implementing and improving manufacturing methods and processes, and ensuring high yield and productivity in a highly automated manufacturing environment. His/her functions will also include interaction with internal and external customers and external vendors to solve urgent and complex problems by identifying and evaluating alternatives to provide support of all in-plant production as required. Position requires some on-call support.

Job Responsibilities:

The Controls Engineer Part Leader is a key partner in the organization responsible for managing a team of Control Part Leads and Engineers to oversee and help implement process improvements.

  • Ability to train on look up of spare parts and create Purchase Requests (PR)

  • Generate Work Orders using EMS

  • Management of process equipment camera system (FMVS)

  • Carry out projects in a timely manner

  • Coordinate amongst multiple teams in order to carry out/lead process improvements and promote workplace safety

  • Provide troubleshooting assistance to production and maintenance teams

  • Program the automation and controls systems of various manufacturers (Italy, Japan, Korea)

  • Create, monitor, and modify logic for program design, simulation and testing, start-up, and troubleshooting

  • Manipulate these items using Mitsubishi:

o Q Series PLC

o Networking with CC-Link & SSCNET II

o Motion control with servo motor & robot

  • Integrate and implement various systems such as: Bar Code & RFID Reading, Robot, Ultrasonic Welding, Vision, Weigh Scale, Gas Sampling, etc.

  • Plan establish and assign work schedules, assignments, and work orders to ensure department goals are met.

  • Additional duties as assigned

Qualifications and Competencies:

  • Bachelor of Science or associate degree in electrical engineering preferred or Automation (or related) required.

  • Direct, coordinate, lead and mentor the activities of team members.

  • 5 to 10 Years Industrial Controls Experience- Experience working in a manufacturing or automotive engineering environment through an internship, co-op, entry level job role, or similar highly preferred

  • Exposure to controls and electrical systems design, automation, mechanical assemblies, and manufacturing assembly equipment

  • Proactive, resourceful & highly motivated with good communication skills

  • Exposure or education in Battery systems or processes a plus but not required

  • Bilingual Korean/English preferred

  • Ability to lead and work well in a team environment

  • Promote workplace safety

  • Ensuring all team members are utilizing time effectively,
