Copeland is seeking a dynamic and strategic Senior Director of External Communications to lead our global omni-channel external communication strategy. This role will elevate Copeland’s brand narrative and optimize our top-of-funnel positioning across digital, traditional, and experiential marketing channels. The Senior Director will drive storytelling that aligns with business priorities and growth programs, creates meaningful engagement with diverse external stakeholders, and reinforces Copeland’s thought leadership and innovation in the HVAC, refrigeration, and industrial industries.

As a Senior Director of External Communications, you will:

  • Omni-Channel Communication Strategy: Build and lead an integrated external communications strategy that enhances Copeland’s visibility across:

  • Website

  • Advertising

  • Mobile apps (content positioning)

  • Digital and offline channels

  • External communications in support of events and exhibitions to maximize brand exposure

  • Community and stakeholder engagement touchpoints

  • Social media

  • News media

  • Brand Narrative Development & Deployment: Collaborate with communications team, business units and leadership teams to define and develop proactive, stakeholder-centric content that tells the Copeland story through:

  • Thought leadership

  • Stakeholder testimonials

  • Product innovation stories

  • Executive Visibility

  • Inward site visits

  • Milestone celebrations

  • KPI Development and Measurement: Partner with cross-functional teams to define [external communications] impact-based KPIs aligned to strategic business goals. Continuously monitor and measure the effectiveness and impact of communications initiatives.

  • Audience Segmentation & Persona Development: Develop audience personas and archetypes to create tailored content and communications strategies for diverse external audiences including:

  • Investors

  • Customers

  • Employees

  • Partners

  • Government regulators

  • Communities

  • News media

  • Collaborative Content Creation: Work closely with the internal communications, brand, and digital marketing teams to create synchronized content and storytelling opportunities that engage both external and internal audiences.

  • Funnel Engagement: Support the content journey through all stages of the engagement funnel in partnership with business units, ensuring alignment across top, middle, and lower-funnel communications strategies.

  • Creative and Digital Oversight: Collaborate with digital team on web development, UX, SEO, and paid search to ensure cohesive messaging and adherence to brand standards across all channels.

  • Crisis & Reputation Management: Develop communication strategies to help protect and manage the company’s reputation in close collaboration with Copeland leadership.

Required Education, Skills, & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or a related field. A Master’s degree is a plus.

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in corporate communications, external relations, or public relations, with a strong background in omni-channel communications strategy.

  • Proven experience in managing corporate branding, thought leadership initiatives, executive visibility programs, and media relations.

  • Demonstrated success in driving external communications strategies that align with business objectives and support growth.

  • Experience in corporate communications for a public company.

  • Exceptional leadership, project management, and cross-functional collaboration skills. Experience managing teams and external agency partners.

  • Strong proficiency in digital communications tools, web development, content management systems (CMS), SEO/SEM, and analytics platforms.

  • Ability to think strategically and manage complex communications challenges, including crisis and reputation management.

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with experience in storytelling, speechwriting, and content development for multiple platforms.
