This position serves our partners at Minnesota’s largest state agency, the Department of Human Services (DHS). The MNIT DHS team supports complex and varied technical needs, including systems that provide health care coverage, deliver child protection and welfare services, and provide support for Minnesotans with special needs including mental illness, chemical dependencies, and physical or developmental disabilities.
As the Database Administrator, you will be performing a broad range of database system administration duties which include, but are not strictly limited to planning, installing, testing and maintaining the database software and hardware necessary to support the databases for DHS and MNsure systems. You will work closely with other skilled database administrators, application administrators & developers, to support the advancement and management of databases and applications in a mission critical, real-time, 24 X 7 system environments.
This position is currently eligible for full-time telework:
Telework (https://mn.gov/mmb-stat/policies/1422-telework.pdf) for Minnesota IT Services allows an employee to perform work from a telework location and an employee may be required to be in the office based on business needs and other dependencies in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Minimum Qualifications

Position requires a minimum of two (2) years of IT related experience in database administration working with SQL – Structured Query Language.
Experience must include:
Experience working with Oracle Database (versions 12c, 19c, or later preferred), including using Oracle Recovery Manager (RMAN) for backup and recovery operations or similar backup and recovery tools.
Experience monitoring database performance and identifying bottlenecks.
Basic knowledge of tools like Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM) or AWR/ADDM reports.
Experience troubleshooting database issues such as connection problems, locks, or corrupted data files.
Experience with SQL query tuning and indexing strategies for performance optimization.
Ability to deliver effective verbal or written messages that facilitate a mutual understanding on both parties.
Customer service skills that include active listening, empathy, and problem-solving.
A bachelor’s degree or higher in Information Technology or an IT related field substitutes for two (2) years of experience, OR an IT or related associate’s degree substitutes for one (1) year.
Preferred Qualifications
Strong knowledge and experience working with Azure cloud services, particularly Azure Database for Oracle or Oracle on Azure Virtual Machines.
Strong knowledge and experience migrating Oracle databases to the cloud, such as Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) or Azure.
Understanding of hybrid environments integrating on-premises Oracle databases with cloud solutions.
Strong knowledge and experience with third-party monitoring tools (e.g., SolarWinds, Nagios) or Oracle Enterprise Manager Cloud Control.
Understanding of troubleshooting using alert logs and trace files.
Strong communication and documentation skills, demonstrated in 1–2 years of professional or academic environments.
Ability to collaborate with development teams and business stakeholders.
