Quality Engineer
Job Description
As a Quality Engineer, you will play a crucial role in integrating new products into production and launching new products. You will review and approve inspection programs and statistical processes, address quality issues, and work closely with production and engineering teams. You will also drive 5S and lean initiatives to ensure continuous improvement.
Help with the integration of new products into production via our NPI process by anticipating technical difficulties, review of all customer requirements, identification of risks and detailed review of our electronic instructions. You will be out on the production floor with each new production NPI to obtain feedback and improve the processes, refine documentation and provide training as necessary.
Develops criteria for, and/or reviews and approves inspection programs and statistical process control (SPC) programs for; incoming inspections, in-process inspections, and final inspections. Development and review is based on inspection program meeting the requirements of KTC quality and continuous improvement requirements; recognized statistical methodology; industry standards, and customer requirements.
Use analytical problem solving skills to discover root cause of quality issues then work with production personnel, engineering, suppliers and/or customers to prevent future repetitive occurrence of problems.
Work closely with Production and Engineering in the evaluation/selection of new equipment and/or processes to support items 1 and 2 above. Poke Yoke techniques are highly desired to ensure consistently high quality of product that will be delivered on time to all of our customers.
Work on 5S and lean initiatives to ensure that all processes are continually improved.
Review quality metrics to look for trends and problem areas then resolve these issues to reduce/eliminate rework.
Generate and facilitate CAPA (Corrective Action Preventative Action) requests for Internal, Suppliers, and Customers. Ensure that they have effective and efficient resolution.
Help develop and maintain effective process controls.
Develop and implement process controls that include statistical techniques for identified key characteristics.
Help with continuous improvement efforts for manufacturing efficiencies and reduced labor costs.
Help improve work instructions/procedures for personnel and equipment to eliminate rework.
Assist in training personnel per training schedule and provide training records.
Ensure that internal audits are completed thoroughly and on time to help improve our Quality Management System, improve efficiency, reduce rework, and to maintain our various quality related certifications including ISO-9001, ISO-13485, AS9100, and NADCAP.
Work with Program Management to identify / review Safety Agency requirements (UL, Intertek, TUV) as well as an Regulatory requirements, (FDA, TS Automotive, AS Aero Space, ITAR, EPA etc….). Understand and implement all Regulatory requirements.
Lead meetings with engineering, production, and management to ensure that all teams are working together towards the goal of high quality builds. Must be able to confidently lead a meeting and inspire others to take action.
Performs other duties, as assigned, to achieve corporate and departmental objectives.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in a technical field from four-year college or university.
5+ years related work experience in the Quality field.
Experience in the use of Microsoft Office applications and the ability to read and understand customer drawings/specifications.
Ability to communicate verbally and in writing with a wide range of individuals (customers, suppliers, management, production workers, etc.).
Must be proficient in leading effective and concise cross-functional team meetings.
Ability to support and guide Engineering throughout the CAPA process, specifically driving root cause and ensuring implementation of effective corrections.
Willing to act as a mentor to other Quality, Manufacturing, & Process Engineers.
Work Environment
This is an onsite position working under the Quality Manager. You will have the opportunity to work with a variety of larger clients.
