The Rabinovitch Lab in the Department of Pediatrics is seeking a highly motivatedLife Science Research Professional 1to help develop genetic mouse models of disease, primarily pulmonary arterial hypertension and Alagille disease. Transgenic mice are used to elicit the genetic basis of disease and the contribution of environmental stimuli. We work closely with physicians to ensure our experimental plans will solve critical problems faced by patients. We are seeking a creative, driven, organized individual to aid in the design and implementation of these experiments. The LSRP1 will collaborate with the other team members to develop protocols, perform experiments, and evaluate and interpret results.

The candidate for this position should have experience withstandard molecular biology techniques, and animal experimentation would be helpful. The candidate should have excellent communication skills organization, rigor and attention to detail and time management skills; and the ability to think creatively to solve problems.

Duties include:

· Work collaboratively with team members to develop, design, and carry out experiments that are essential to the group’s collective success

· Optimize and apply genotyping

· Work with mice

· Interpret experimental results; document, summarize and present findings in individual and group meetings

· Maintain a detailed organizational plan and record to ensure successful and timely completion of required tasks

· Contribute to generation of protocols and publications

· Help in the maintenance of lab equipment

· Occasional help with PCR studies and cell harvest and culture

The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location, and external market pay for comparable jobs. The pay range for this position working in the California Bay area is $31.40 to $38.89.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor or MSc degree in biology or related field. Highly motivated candidates of all levels are encouraged to apply.

• 2+ years of experience in a research laboratory with experience in molecular biology techniques and mouse experiments is desired

• Technical knowledge and experience with genetics is desired.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):

Bachelor's degree in related scientific field.

· General understanding of scientific principles. Demonstrated performance to use knowledge and skills when needed.

· Demonstrated ability to apply theoretical knowledge of science principals to problem solve work.

· General computer skills and ability to quickly learn and master computer programs, databases, and scientific applications.

· Ability to work under deadlines with general guidance.

· Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to accurately complete detailed work.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:

· Frequently stand, walk, twist, bend, stoop, squat, grasp lightly, use fine manipulation, grasp forcefully, perform desk-based computer tasks, use telephone, write by hand, lift, carry, push and pull objects weighing over 40 pounds.

· Occasionally sit, kneel, crawl, reach and work above shoulders, sort and file paperwork or parts.

· Rarely climb, scrub, sweep, mop, chop and mix or operate hand and foot controls.

· Must have correctible vision to perform duties of the job.

· Ability to bend, squat, kneel, stand, reach above shoulder level, and move on hard surfaces for up to eight hours.

· Ability to lift heavy objects weighing up to 50 pounds.

· Ability to work in a dusty, dirty, and odorous environment.

· Position may require repetitive motion.
