Stanford University is seeking a Life Science Research Professional 1 to contribute to psychiatric research projects designed to implicate specific cell types in disorder pathology. A wide variety of skills will be needed for projects spanning computational and wet lab approaches. The ideal candidate will have training in genomics, medical research, and computer science. There will be ample opportunities to contributing to publications and other work products.
Duties include:
Review single cell and single nucleus RNA sequencing (sc/snRNAseq) papers, with a focus on the latest studies of brain tissue from humans and other organisms. Review papers with computational methods for aligning data (e.g. cell types) from different experiments.
Plan approach to research using single cell and single nucleus RNA sequencing data.
Apply an understanding of animal models of psychiatric disorders to aid interpretation of data from published papers and from our lab. Offer suggestions regarding laboratory protocols and procedures.
Contribute to publications in the lab. According to interest and project fit, this may include drafting of manuscript text, creation of figures, and other manuscript preparation and editing tasks.
From published papers, document experimental details for single cell and single nucleus experiments. Collect relevant data and summary tables from such experiments for use as lab resources. Assist with single cell transcriptomics data generation.
Assist with orientation and training of new staff and students regarding lab procedures, protocols, and techniques.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Domain knowledge in genetics and biomedical sciences.Statistical and computer programming experience.Proficiency with R and/or python.Command line skills.Proficiency with Java, C, Python, SQL, AWS, Sckit-learn, Django, MongoDB, and google cloud.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):
- Bachelor's degree in related scientific field.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):
General understanding of scientific principles. Demonstrated performance to use knowledge and skills when needed.
Demonstrated ability to apply theoretical knowledge of science principals to problem solve work.
Ability to maintain detailed records of experiments and outcomes.
General computer skills and ability to quickly learn and master computer programs, databases, and scientific applications.
Ability to work under deadlines with general guidance.
Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to accurately complete detailed work.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:
Frequently stand, walk, twist, bend, stoop, squat, grasp lightly, use fine manipulation, grasp forcefully, perform desk-based computer tasks, use telephone, write by hand, lift, carry, push and pull objects.
Occasionally sit, kneel, crawl, reach and work above shoulders, sort and file paperwork or parts.
Must have correctible vision to perform duties of the job.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

The expected pay range for this position is $31.40 to $38.89 per hour. Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
