Postdoctoral Associate / Senior Postdoctoral Associate

The School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences invites applications for the Postdoctoral Associate/Senior Postdoctoral position. The title/rank will be contingent upon the selected candidate's skills and experience in their area of expertise.

Postdoctoral Associate

Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):

Ph.D. (or foreign equivalent) in hand by July 1, 2025.

Preferred Qualifications:

Ph.D. (or foreign equivalent) in marine science or a related field. Familiarity with numerical modeling of marine ecological processes, and experience with larval or pathogen dispersal simulation and connectivity analyses strongly preferred. Knowledge of epidemiological modeling, and proficiency in multiple programming/analytical computer languages (Python, R, Matlab, etc.) a consideration.

Brief Description of Duties:

The Postdoctoral Associate will conduct research in the School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences (https://www.stonybrook.edu/commcms/somas/) under the supervision of Principal Investigator, Dr. Dan Holstein (https://www.stonybrook.edu/commcms/somas/people/_profiles/daniel-holstein) . The selected candidate will apply the results of lab and field experimentation towards high-resolution larval/material dispersal in the coastal ocean. The successful candidate will become involved in multiple ongoing and new projects, and may be expected to engage with population studies, restoration activities, and epidemiological simulation. Successful candidates will have meticulous attention to detail, experience working in teams, strong communication skills, careful data management strategies, and an interest in the mentorship of graduate and undergraduate lab members.

Postdoctoral Associate duties will include:

● Within the predetermined research scope and methodology, conduct larval/disease dispersal simulations and associated analyses.

● Assist with laboratory experimentation.

● Prepare, lead, edit, contribute to, and submit large collaborative publications.

● Assist in lab management, including the direction and mentorship of personnel and maintenance of lab facilities.

● As necessary or appropriate, conduct field work and attend/present at international meetings and conferences.

● Other duties as assigned.

Senior Postdoctoral Associate

Special Notes:

The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research Foundation policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.
