Research Technician II

Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):

Associate's degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Technical knowledge as evidenced by coursework in Biochemistry and/or Cell Biology. Experience with cell culture. Two (2) years of full-time experience in a laboratory and familiarity with biochemistry laboratory procedures.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or a related field in the sciences. Experience with molecular cloning. Experience with protein purification.

Brief Description of Duties:

The Research technician position will support the research program of Dr. Stuti Sharma (https://www.sharma-lab.org/) in the Department of Biochemistry and Cell Biology. The project involves purification of endogenous proteins from human or yeast cell-culture for mass spectrometry, enzymatic assays, and structure determination by cryo-electron microscopy. The successful incumbent will also assist with ordering lab supplies and compliance with environmental health and safety regulations. The successful incumbent will have excellent interpersonal skills, exercising strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail. The incumbent must possess experience working independently and as part of a team with a collaborative approach to problem solving.

  • Conduct experiments; provide technical laboratory support to the PI and other lab members for advanced research activities.

  • Perform literature searches, staying current in the field by reading and discussing literature and experimental results with the PI.

  • Assist Principal Investigator with ordering lab supplies and maintaining compliance with environmental health and safety procedures.

  • Participate in weekly lab meetings.

  • Other duties as assigned.

The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. FLSA Non Exempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA.
