Responsibilities

Mobile application software development, design and prototyping

Use best-in-class programming skills to develop highly innovative, consumer-facing Android and iOS mobile apps.

Design, develop, analyze, and optimize back-end application code for efficiency and performance

Writing clean, maintainable code and performing peer code-reviews.

Work with other team members to investigate design approaches, prototype new technology and evaluate technical feasibility

Work in an Agile/Scrum environment to deliver high quality software against aggressive schedules

Establish architectural principles, select design patterns and mentor team members on their appropriate application

Work closely with product and design teams to customize the Alexa experience on mobile devices

Implement user interfaces using the latest mobile programming techniques

Key job responsibilities

Designing, building and leading new app and backend projects. Previously app development experience ( or ) is a big plus, although not required.

Working independently as a true project lead and primary SDE point-of-contact. This is an excellent opportunity to demonstrate above-the-bar ownership.

Working with engineers from across multiple, two-pizza teams.

Collaborating with L6 and L7 leaders to establish the team's tech strategy.

About the team

The DCS team is part of the Alexa Mobile organization, and our responsibilities include the onboarding of devices, the Devices channel/tab in the Alexa app, and settings management for devices. We power these experiences through five backend services that we own and maintain.

Our Tech Stack

We are a full-stack team with opportunities to work across various technologies and domains, including:

Front-end: React Native, Typescript, Android/iOS.

Back-end: Java (primary), with opportunities to work with scripting languages, Kotlin, and server-side rendering.

Infrastructure: Native AWS technologies like DynamoDB, S3, App config etc.

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

  • 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

  • Experience programming with at least one software programming language

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $129,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $223,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
