Amazon Sr. Applied Scientist, DOTS in Sunnyvale, California

Description

The DOTS Science team consists of scientists with operations research and machine learning backgrounds who are responsible for enabling data driven decisions through mathematical modeling and machine learning throughout Devices Operations and Supply Chain organization. Our scientists produce science-based solutions that integrate with the long-term strategic goals of the organization. We develop scientific models and tools that enable business leaders to make decisions informed by unbiased scientific evidence. The types of problems you are trying to solve include forecasting, recommendations, classification, and others.

Key job responsibilities

  • Use machine learning and analytical techniques to create scalable solutions for business problems

  • Analyze and extract relevant information from large amounts of Amazon's historical business data to help automate and optimize key processes

  • Design, develop, and evaluate highly innovative models for predictive learning

  • Work closely with software engineering teams to drive real-time model implementations and new feature creations

  • Work closely with operations staff to optimize various business operations

  • Establish scalable, efficient, automated processes for large scale data analyses, model development, model validation, and model implementation

  • Track general business activity and provide clear, compelling management reporting on a regular basis

  • Research and implement novel machine learning, optimization, and statistical approaches

About the team

DOTS consists of related but divergent teams focused on delivery of business-driven software and data. The DOTS team is comprised of data engineers, research scientists, user experience designers, product managers, and program managers. This org-wide group provides an end-to-end perspective of the software needs of Devices Operations and Supply Chain and works to ensure that software designed and built for the entire organization solves both the challenges of today and tomorrow.

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of building machine learning models for business application experience

  • PhD, or Master's degree and 6+ years of applied research experience

  • Experience programming in Java, C++, Python or related language

  • Experience with neural deep learning methods and machine learning

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with modeling tools such as R, scikit-learn, Spark MLLib, MxNet, Tensorflow, numpy, scipy etc.

  • Experience with large scale distributed systems such as Hadoop, Spark etc.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $150,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $260,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
