National Grid is hiring a Lead Environmental Scientist for our Environment and Sustainability department in Syracuse, NY

To organize and facilitate the environmental due diligence, scoping, planning, licensing and permitting, and management of projects by providing leadership and clear direction on environmental aspects of project work to project team within a matrix organization.
- Supporting the Project Managers and the Environmental (Licensing, Permitting and Compliance) teams to ensure consistency across projects. Specifically:
- Monitoring progression of Article VII and VIII application development against key milestones and project schedule. Provide regular updates to Environmental and Project Management teams
- Monitor and implement efficiencies
- Provide QA/QC of all documentation being submitted to agencies
- Lessen the burden on project teams and assist the PMs in driving the Article VII, Article VIII and permitting process by:
- Participate in Project meetings as required
- Coordinating Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), as needed
- Provide permit tracking and status on a regular cadence
- Coordinate responses to Contractor RFIs regarding permitting
- Work with NG Functional areas as needed.
- Support real property acquisition process and post-closure property management/development to ensure coordination between NG Environmental Compliance, Legal-Environmental, Real Estate, and Construction.
- Coordinate with NG Environmental team to support development of RFPs and evaluation of contractor proposals to ensure that NG Environmental L&P and Compliance requirements are properly addressed.
- Manages/tracks preparation of Environmental Compliance Plan submittal(s) in coordination with Environmental Compliance.
- Identifying and elevating cross-disciplinary risks and issues that impede the effective permitting and licensing of capital projects
- Work with SMEs to resolve permitting matters in a coordinated fashion
- Highlight and champion opportunities for process improvements
- Ensures compliance with regulatory orders and permits
- Manages/tracks overall Permit Matrix for projects, in coordination with NG Environmental L&P, Legal, Real Estate, and Construction
- Leads preparation and actively administrates the Compliance Matrix for each project's permits and other project requirements.
- Manages regulatory change notices and support monthly status meetings during construction.
- Ability to build strong relationships with key stakeholders (e.g. both external and internal).
- Strong interpersonal and written communication skills.
- A Bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific discipline, Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering/Science, and relevant industry experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge of relevant industry practice, standards and legislation. Knowledge of current trends within the industry and developments in legislation or regulation.
- 10+ years related environmental experience. Extensive and significant knowledge of environmental licensing and permitting regulatory requirements.
Salary: $115,000 - $135,000
