Description Quick Facts Compensation: $33.33 an hour 1st 60 days, thereafter $36.11, as bargained Working hours: Full-time, hourly, Reports to: Director, Maintenance and Repair Industry: Marine Terminal Container Operations Job Functions: IAM Union The Unskilled Maintenance Helper is responsible for a variety of essential tasks aimed at maintaining operational efficiency and cleanliness in the maintenance and repair shop. Key responsibilities include picking up and organizing parts, performing daily maintenance checks on equipment, and managing large deliveries. Essential Duties: Pick up parts as needed - from front gate or directly from vendors. Label and put parts away from runs and incoming freight daily. General shop cleanup and garbage/recycling duties. Dropping off packages to Fed-Ex (Reefer Electronics and Oil Samples) Daily checks of water level in parts washer, ensuring that the motor does not burn up. Unloading large deliveries via forklift - this includes wire ropes, transmissions, motors, chassis orders, compressors, etc. Repair of tires, gate and roadability inspections, and fueling. Ensure all cores are returned to vendors in the proper timeframe for credit. Assist powervac vendor when washing reefer rows and wash pit. Steam cleaning containers in work areas. Manage swapping out all drain socks on a semi-annual basis. Assist Eco-Lube with waste pickup and report on when pickup/delivery is needed. Tackle organization projects for reefer and overflow parts. General re-stocking of bathroom and breakroom. Keeping oil containment area clean and tidy for environmental inspections. Helping with the movement of parts when transitioning locations in the future. Rearranging parts to create space for more general stocking items when necessary. Special projects as assigned by General Foreman, Working Foreman and Management. Assisting Journeyman mechanics as needed. Re-stock water cooler weekly. Re-stock main parts room with aerosols and cleaning products from overflow container. Provide coverage for parts room staff when on vacation. Cross train for purchasing, estimates, and bids for any future staff movements. Cross train on revenue billing to assist staff when needed and/or cover positions for PTO. Additional Responsibilities include the following. Experience, Certifications, Credentials): Experience working in maintenance and repair shop and/or commercial tire repairs A combination of two years of maintenance, mechanical, or parts experience preferred. Selected candidate will be required to be a member of the IAM Union and will be governed by the applicable bargaining unit agreement. Obtain and Maintain TWIC (Transportation Workers Identification Card) issued by the Department of Homeland Security Valid US Driver's License Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Parts room experience is a plus Knowledge of Terminal billing systems desired Mechanical aptitude Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Be able to communicate, both verbal and written Work as directed by General Foreman Maintain positive attitude amongst colleagues and terminal personnel Stay focused under high-pressure situations Physical Working Conditions Requires the full use of the person's hands, arms, and legs Must be physically able to work from gangways, stools, ladders, scissor lifts, and reach a
