Description DEPARTMENT: WAREHOUSE/SOCIAL SERVICES UNIT: Tacoma Citadel Corps POSITION TITLE: Warehouse Assistant/Driver - Full-Time (35 hours, M-F, 8a-3:30p, half hour lunch) REPORTS TO: Operations Coordinator, Director of Social Services STATUS: Full-time, Non-Exempt COMPENSATION: $20.00 GENERAL STATEMENT: The Salvation Army is a branch of the Christian Church and the ultimate goal of all programs is spiritual regeneration of all people. SCOPE OF POSITION: The full-time Warehouse Assistant/Driver for the Warehouse/Social Services program is an essential team member for The Salvation Army of Tacoma's warehouse, food bank, food pantry and social services. Primarily, this includes driving a truck to pick up donations, processing (weighing, sorting, logging in, and storing) donations in the warehouse, and cleaning/maintaining the warehouse. All employees are expected to participate in training and development. ESSENTIAL WAREHOUSE ASSISTANT DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Assist in the maintenance and cleaning of the warehouse, and operations-related equipment. Assist in the vehicle maintenance and any record keeping relating to the vehicles. Proper disposal of expired food, garbage, and recyclable waste. Proper storage and organization of items stored in the Warehouse. Treat all staff members, volunteers, and residents with respect and dignity. Maintain a positive attitude and communicate professionally and respectfully to volunteers and employees. This includes verbal (in person conversations, over the phone, recorded messages) as well as written (text, emails, social media, and changeovers). May be asked to maintain statistical records, reports, logs, files and other required documentation. May be asked to provide orientation, support and supervision of volunteers. Participation in staff meetings. Checking work email at the beginning and near the end of every shift. During some shifts, it is possible that employee will be the only person on duty Seasonal duties as needed Other duties as assigned by the Operations Coordinator or the Director of Social Services ESSENTIAL DRIVER RESPONSIBILITIES: Pick up food donations and other in-kind donations and deliver them to the warehouse Properly document donations by weighing, sorting, logging and storing donations Seasonal duties as needed Other duties as assigned by the Operations Coordinator or the Director of Social Services QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: * High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent * 18 years of age or older * Valid Washington State driver's license with a clean driving record (background check required) * Valid forklift operator certification (or ability to get one) * Good public relations/communication skills * Ability to work with a variety of people in diverse situations * Knowledge of the Tacoma/Seattle area * Ability to work holidays and weekends if needed * Experience driving box trucks, CDL not required * Detail oriented and ability to multi-task * Adhere to the comprehensive mission of The Salvation Army * Ability to work independently and as part of a team * Self-motivated with the ability to work with minimal supervision * Ability to work in a challenging environment and maintain poise under pressure * Ability and willingness to keep information confidential * Must complete and adhere to Protecting the Mission requirements and guidelines, including the ability to pass a TSA background check at the time of hiring, and then annually.
