In this role you will perform a variety of lubricant and fuel application tests using established procedures.
As a Technical Specialist, you create chemistry by...
Formulating large- and small-scale samples for laboratory testing and performing laboratory evaluations according to ASTM, internal or proprietary procedures.
Possessing a high comfort level manipulating chemical additives and solvents according to laboratory safety practices.
Maintaining a safe and efficient laboratory environment and implementing and practicing Quality initiatives. You will also ensure all laboratory equipment is properly calibrated and in working order.
Utilizing your problem-solving ability, you will understand the mechanical operation of and troubleshoot a variety of fuel/lubricant test equipment including small hydraulic vane pumps and operate tools associated with this equipment. Additionally, you will proactively identify weaknesses in current procedures and investigate and implement alternative solutions and methods.
Successfully engaging across the organization, you will interface with the site facilities department when there are equipment issues and work to get them resolved.
Using your robust analytical skills, you will perform a preliminary assessment of technical data, identifying when results are unusual or suspect. You will be able to investigate the cause of suspect data and define and implement corrective actions.
Creating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for tests and equipment for use by others within the group, maintain consistent and accurate documentation of test parameters and results, and summarize experimental design and results in written form using Excel or PowerPoint for presentation to internal stakeholders.

Having a Bachelor’s education in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related field
Applying any experience, you may have in fuel, lubricant, coolant and brake fluid industries will be a valued asset as you begin to develop knowledge of products, markets and technology within the lubricant/fuel industry.
Your proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Access will be essential
Your effective interpersonal, written, verbal, and presentation communication skills will aid you as you periodically present information internally in oral form.

Pay transparency
BASF is committed to pay transparency practices. The competitive Pay Range for this role is $76k- $96k. Actual pay will be determined based on education, certifications, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
