Job Descriptions:

GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:

Responsible for maintaining a variety of tasks to support aspects of production, ensuring the proper functioning of facility-related equipment and infrastructure. This role involves routine maintenance and ensuring the safety and cleanliness of the facility but not limited to modifications and or repairs. The technician will respond to maintenance requests, conduct weekly and monthly inspections, and perform repairs to equipment and buildings to minimize downtime and keep operations running smoothly.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Performs and documents maintenance and completes all pertinent maintenance records.

  • Possesses and maintains a high level of competency and efficiency in all aspects of maintenance operations.

  • Must have the ability to identify tools and utilize the appropriate power tools necessary for the job

  • Constructs and repairs a variety of structures such as walls, doors/windows, stairs, roofs, containers, office equipment and fencing.

  • Mixes and applies paints and other finishing coats to interior and exterior surfaces by means of brush, spray gun, or roller.

  • Knows and follows effective safety standards, practices and techniques pertaining to general maintenance and construction work.

  • Supports and exhibits the focus of preventative maintenance and zero defects as well as a “do it right the first time” approach.

  • Performs lockout/tagout functions in accordance with safe practices and company procedures.

  • Assists other maintenance personnel with daily activities.

  • Complies with established quality management procedures.

  • Follows safety procedures and protocols.

  • Forklift certifiable.

  • Takes initiative to routinely inspect and improve the buildings and installed systems including but not limited to packaging and handling machinery, plumbing systems, electrical equipment, roofs, drains, shop floor equipment, and company grounds.

  • Maintains a clean, safe work environment and cleans up all tools and debris after completion of a task.

  • Must have the ability to work at heights and in inclement weather.

  • Other duties as assigned

Facilities Technician I

  • Works under limited supervision.

Facilities Technician II

  • Works under minimal supervision.

  • Uses email, teams, excel and spreadsheets to document maintenance performed and all pertinent maintenance records.

  • Demonstrates effective troubleshooting skills and repairs on various types of production equipment using manuals, standard tools and test equipment.

Facilities Tech III

  • Works independently.

  • Knowledge of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and mechanical maintenance.

  • Plans (including cost estimates), designs and installs electrical and mechanical systems for production equipment.

  • Troubleshoots and performs minor and major work to be done to facilities and equipment.

  • Assists the Facilities Manager in planning and coordinating work.

  • May provide training to lower-level Facilities Technicians upon supervisor’s request/approval.

  • Ability to maintain sensitive and confidential information as required by government standards.

  • Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, carpentry and equipment maintenance.

  • Ability to interact appropriately with the public when necessary.

  • Ability to adhere to workplace standards and rules.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Required:

Each successive level of Facilities Technicians builds on the identified typical qualifications listed for the previous level(s) Facilities Technicians.

Facilities Technician I

  • Requires high school diploma or equivalent.

  • Minimum of 1year of hands-on experience in a facilities/maintenance role.

  • Must be able to demonstrate accurate basic math skills.

  • Must be able to demonstrate the accurate use of a tape measure.

  • Must be able to read and interpret drawings.

  • Must be able to interpret and work from industry specifications.

  • Basic computer skills with the ability to navigate around files.

  • Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the position with or without a reasonable accommodation.

  • Must possess valid California driver’s license and clean DMV record.

  • May be required to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance at the appropriate level (requires U.S. Citizenship).

Facilities Technician II

  • Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in a facilities/maintenance role.

  • Demonstrated ability of Level II duties and responsibilities.

  • Working knowledge in 120Vsingle phase - 480 3 phase electrical.

Facilities Technician III

  • Minimum 5 years hands-on experience in all aspects of construction and maintenance

  • Must be able to troubleshoot and perform minor program changes in various types of equipment.

  • Demonstrated ability of Level III duties and responsibilities.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Standing, walking, lifting, bending, reaching, grasping, stooping, kneeling, climbing for extended periods – 6 hours.

  • Working with a variety of hand tools, power tools and other related equipment.

  • Occasionally lifts and carries objects weighing up to 50lbs unassisted.

  • Works in non-temperature-controlled environments.

  • Works in confined spaces.

  • May work from a variety of surfaces, level or unleveled, and at heights when performing job duties.

  • May work extended hours or weekends.

  • Occasional exposure to noise, hazardous materials, and dust.

  • Ability to stand and sit for long periods of time – up to 9 hours.

  • Ability to perform repetitive motions.

  • Employee may generate, handle, manage, or work around hazardous materials and hazardous wastes.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

  • 25-35% - May be required to transport items and equipment from vendor locations and other STS buildings/offices.
