WSP USA Early Career Electrical Power Monitoring Systems Engineer - Buildings in Tempe, Arizona
This Opportunity
kW Mission Critical Engineering , a WSP USA company, is currently initiating a search for an Early Career Electrical Power Monitoring Systems Engineer for our Tempe, AZ office.
In this position with us, you will work with senior engineers to design EPMS serving data centers. This position has the potential to additionally include Building Automation Systems. Design activities include drawing and specification development for control products, points lists and Sequence of Operations.
The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, and a desire to learn controls design. The ideal candidate will also possess an interest in liaising with internal and external design, client and construction team members.
Your Impact
Work in a team or independently, planning and executing engineering tasks within projects
Demonstrate significant understanding of the range of services provided by the kW MCE engineering teams & related practices
Independently, under general supervision, support the team during proposal design, and construction stages of projects
Execute controls design of complex projects
Work within multi-discipline project teams to develop drawing and specification documents for issuance to architects, contractors and building owners.
Attend client meetings and contribute to discussions
Collaborate and coordinate with internal project discipline team members and external equipment vendors and manufacturers
Communicate complex control and monitoring concepts and decisions to clients and stakeholders
Integrate complex mechanical & electrical engineering requirements into larger facility controls and monitoring designs
Interact regularly with clients, which includes maintaining current relationships and developing new relationships
Perform all aspects of controls designs, review systems, and drawings prior to issuance
Survey and evaluate existing conditions
Perform construction administration tasks
Complete training on assigned tasks.
Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical or Computer Engineering, or closely related discipline.
0 to 1 years of relevant post education experience.
Excellent research skills with analytical mindset.
Familiarity with process and concepts for design/build.
Familiarity with relevant building, mechanical, electrical and energy codes
Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
Proficient self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
Ability to work independently under general supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.
Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools.
Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
Engineer in Training Certification.
Prior internship related to the degree of study and the specific engineering discipline.
A member of and/or actively participate in local professional practice organizations.
A strong understanding of three phase electrical power systems
General knowledge of instrumentation, controls and control systems.
General knowledge of measurement of electrical power in three-phase systems.
Familiarity with discipline-specific design software (i.e., AutoCAD, Revit).
