McGovern Medical SchoolatUTHealth Houston,Department of Pediatricsis seeking an outstanding and energetic physician-scientist leader to serve as chief of its growing division ofPediatric Infectious Diseases. The chief is expected to provide vision and lead ongoing growth within a rapidly expanding medical school.

The Division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases has more than a 50-year history of excellence in academic pediatrics and great success in basic and clinical research. The Division, Department, and Medical School are uniquely well-positioned to support all aspects of research. Primary Teaching HospitalChildren’s Memorial Hermann (CMHH)is a 240-bed facility averaging more than 120,000 patient visits yearly. The hospital includes a 22-bed PICU, 20-bed CVICU, 90-bed Level III NICU, and a 38-bed Level II neonatal exceptional care unit. Each year on average, this Division performs more than 700 inpatient consults and more than 1300 outpatient clinical visits, which include ID patient follow-ups, referrals from the Memorial Hermann system, HIV pediatric patients (infected and exposed), and immunosuppressed transplant patients.

UTHealth Pedi ID has a resource-rich and diverse student, patient, and research environment — excellent ground for aggressive physician-scientists to grow their areas of interest, with established clinical and research programs including:

  • general infectious diseases

  • HIV patient-centered care

  • antimicrobial stewardship

  • hospital epidemiology and infection control/prevention

  • a clinical research group

  • a growing transplant and immunocompromised host service

  • a growing perinatal infection group including congenital syphilis and CMV infections

  • long history of basic and translational applied research at domestic and internationalsites

The Division currently hosts eight clinical faculty members, three clinical research faculty, and three research faculty, and has an ACGME-accredited fellowship program in Pediatric and combined Med-Peds Infectious Diseases. In addition to CMHH, Pediatric ID clinicians provide inpatient and outpatient consultations inUT Physicians clinics;MD Anderson Cancer Center;Harris Health Lyndon B. Johnson General Hospital; and serve as a referral service to the 14 hospitals of theMemorial Hermann Hospital System.

Qualifications:

  • MD, DO, and Ph.D. or equivalent degrees.

  • Texas Medical License (or eligibility)

This position requires both outstanding clinical skills and proven leadership. While academic interests across pediatric infectious diseases are welcome, ideal candidates will have a strong track record of scholarly productivity, preferably a scientist with a history of independently funded research consistent with Division and Department goals. Additional requirements include board certification in their clinical discipline, along with full eligibility for Texas licensure, participation in UT Physicians health plan, and credentialing at affiliated medical institutions.
