Pearson Manager of Counseling Services in Topeka, Kansas
Purpose Summary
As a key member of the Service Delivery team, the Counseling Services Manager is responsible for the overall strategy, planning, and execution of the counseling service line serving students with diverse learning needs. Reporting to the Director of School Service Delivery, this role collaborates closely with the Director and the Therapy Services Lead to develop and implement a strategic plan for high-quality counseling services ensuring compliance with special education policies and implementing best practices to support students social-emotional, behavioral, and academic development. The Counseling Manager oversees operations across Pearson Virtual Schools in various states, leading a team of counseling providers, and ensuring smooth delivery of services. Key responsibilities include hiring, onboarding, team development, and advancing departmental initiatives, as well as supporting cross-functional projects throughout the school year cycle. This is a full-time, remote, 12-month role.
Core Tasks and Responsibilities
Collaborate on strategic service planning by working with the Director of School Service Delivery and the Therapy Services Lead to establish and execute a strategic plan for Counseling services;
Lead a team of Counseling providers by directly supervising and managing providers, ensuring high-quality service delivery across Pearson Virtual Schools;
Conduct regular meetings with direct reports, offering constructive feedback, coaching, and formal performance evaluations;
Provide high-quality written and verbal feedback on a regular basis, documenting and addressing all performance issues and concerns;
Ensure compliance and service quality by reviewing and analyzing reports aligned with school and state-specific policies, ensuring adherence to staffing models and service standards;
Monitor and support Counseling providers to maintain high levels of professionalism, clinical support, and customer service;
Audit documentation and service delivery by regularly reviewing student therapy logs and parental consent forms to ensure compliance, particularly for Medicaid reimbursement purposes;
Contribute to budget planning and oversight by providing input to the budgeting process (staffing ratios, staffing allocations, and additional resources) and the monitoring of department expenses to ensure alignment with financial expectations;
Develop and implement staffing strategies to ensure a strong pipeline of providers are hired and trained in a timely manner;
Promote team growth and advance departmental goals by spearheading efforts to enhance service delivery, support cross-functional projects, and assist Counseling providers with policy updates and new technology implementation;
Implement effective strategies for staff and schools to deliver scheduling and service information updates.
Communicate and collaborate effectively with Special Education Leaders and their teams to ensure full implementation of program policies and procedures by providers;
Become an expert on school and state specific policies and procedures for implementing services in partner schools;
Utilize data analysis platforms to monitor the scheduling of services and evaluations closely, and take action when necessary;
Required Skills, Experience, and Competencies
MS in Social Work, MS in School Counseling, or MS in Mental Health Counseling (LMHC) required
Hold a current LCSW, or LMHC professional license
Supervisory experience required, preferably 3+ years
Valid state and/or Department of Education Licensure, required
Ability to obtain and maintain multiple required state certifications and clearances as assigned
5+ years of experience in K-12 school setting delivering mental health services to Special Education populations, virtual experience preferred
Strong technology skills (will use Pearson Online Classroom, Power BI, SharePoint, Zoom, Microsoft, Google Apps, HubSpot and other software)
Experience with Medicaid reimbursement and processes, preferred
Innovative and creative problem solver, with a high degree of adaptability to shift priorities
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines
Strong leadership qualities and a commitment to accountability for studentgoal achievement
Detail oriented, with a proven ability to analyze and interpret accountability data
Comfortable presenting information to both small and large groups
High degree of flexibility and ability to work independently and take initiative
Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
Some travel may be required
Other duties as assigned

Compensation at Pearson is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and specific location. As required by the California, Colorado, Hawaii, Maryland, New York State, New York City, Washington State, and Washington DC laws, the pay range for this position is as follows:
The minimum full-time salary range is between $75,000 - $80,000.
