Overview
THE ROLE:
The Research Scientist is responsible for identifying adequate sources and validating scientific and technical information pertaining to Herbalife products and ingredients to ensure their safety and scientific integrity, and that all product efficacy claims, and related statements are scientifically substantiated according to applicable local regulatory standards.
HOW YOU WOULD CONTRIBUTE:
• Performs literature search using scientific databases, analyzes the evidence on individual ingredients and their combination to provide science-based recommendations in written reports, including evidence tables, to support scientific substantiation of product safety and health benefit assessments under supervisory guidance.
• Develops product efficacy and safety dossiers and ingredient monographs according to local regulatory requirements with the focus on scientific substantiation for related health benefits under supervisory guidance.
• As part of product development process, evaluates raw materials and formulas documentation in the Product Lifecycle Management System (Agile) with proper training.
• Provides scientific support on research projects (basic or clinical), coordinates the collaboration with internal and external partners as needed, with supervisory guidance.
• Communicates and presents the science behind products to cross functional stakeholders (Scientific Affairs, Legal, Formulation, Marketing, Global Regulatory Affairs, Sourcing, Corporate Communications at regional and corporate levels) to support business.
• Assists in activities related to engagement with scientific Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) for research collaboration opportunities, and the efforts to support Herbalife’s strategic external engagement with scientific and nutrition professional’s community and attends relevant trade association activities as dictated by business needs.
• Occasional business travel, attends scientific conferences, industry trade shows, etc.
• Communicates critical issues to manager and other relevant parties in a timely manner, with proposed solutions.
• Reports project status to manager on a regular basis, through meetings, emails, and/or reports, as necessary.
• Performs additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications
SKILLS AND BACKGROUND REQUIRED TO BE SUCCESSFUL:
• Ability to generate and interpret scientific data with supervisory guidance to inform correct decision making.
• Ability to quickly acquire and apply new areas of scientific knowledge.
• Nutritional, human health, and/or botanical science expertise for formulation development and creation of substantiation files in relevant food/dietary supplement industries.
• Has capacity to interact effectively at all levels of organization with sensitivity to diversity.
• Competent use of MS Office, particularly Excel and PowerPoint, and citation/reference manager software.
• Possesses strong written and persuasive verbal communication skills.
• Broad experience base in functional areas that interact with IPSS, such as R&D Formulation, QA, Regulatory, Legal, Marketing, Scientific Affairs and Government Affairs.
• 6+ years' experience developing and/or reviewing science-based safety and benefit assessments for foods or nutritional supplements, or relevant experience, including graduate studies.
• Moderate understanding of local or regional product claim regulations and registration requirements
Education
• Bachelor’s degree or higher with a major in a relevant scientific discipline.
