Job Purpose:

Operates heavy-duty trucks, including the plowing of City streets. Performs work in the construction, re-construction, maintenance, and repair of City streets, storm sewer lines, and other Public Works projects.

Supervision Received:

Receives supervision from Public Works Foreman, or designee.

Supervision Exercised:

May supervise other employees assigned to assist in a particular function.

Examples of Essential Functions:

• Duties require the operation of a heavy-duty truck in plowing, salting, snow removal operations, hauling fill, sand, gravel, stone, and asphalt.
• Remove debris, trees, and brush from City streets, right of ways, and recreational areas.
• Reconstructing City streets and catch basins.
• May operate heavy equipment.
• May operate other mechanical equipment such as road sweeper and roller.
• Operates associated tools and mechanical equipment used in maintaining streets, parks, and recreational areas.
• Performs minor maintenance on equipment.
• Is responsible for observing safety rules, regulations, and practices for the safe efficient operation of equipment.
• Other duties as assigned.

Preferred Minimum Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

High school diploma or education equivalent.

Must possess and maintain valid State of Connecticut Commercial Drivers License (CDL) Class B.

Not less than four (4) years employment in the field of road construction, earthmoving, grounds and building maintenance.

Minimum of two (2) years as an operator of a heavy-duty truck.

The ability to operate heavy-duty trucks in performing assigned duties.
