Pearson Data Management Engineer in Trenton, New Jersey

Location: Remote

Position Summary :

Working remotely, the Data Management Engineer will work with school staff, the technology team and partners to accurately transmit required data to external SIS and supply critical data to external stakeholders and other departments within Pearson Virtual Schools. This is a newly created position with the opportunity to gather requirements, develop, communicate, and implement processes. The employee is responsible for anticipating, creating, organizing, updating, and maintaining the SQL queries and reports for the integration. They will also prepare ad hoc reports requested by external audiences often requiring a short turnaround. The ideal candidate will have strong technical aptitude, a desire for continuous improvements, takes initiative, enjoys problem solving, experience with project management, and school reporting as it relates to data manipulation, report writing, automation, importing, and exporting between applications. In addition, the candidate will be able to communicate effectively and confidently with internal and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities :

  • Serve as subject matter expert in data tools and techniques.

  • Interpret technical file specifications, export, and import data to fulfill requirements, and document steps for replication and audit preparation.

  • Provide data to support the school academic, compliance, reporting and financial operations for assigned location(s); Extract, Transform and Load (ETL) data between systems.

  • Maintain data integrity, accuracy, and ongoing quality of delivered reports.

  • Develop automated data validation and/or data reconciliation tool

  • Partner with school personnel, program or district liaisons to monitor and track data for inconsistencies. Research discovered inconsistencies, developed a plan for correction and prevention.

  • Create and maintain SQL Server Reports to accommodate state reporting and corporate requirements.

  • Assist with developing procedures and oversee implementation of procedures for reporting to external audiences including state agencies, funding sources, school boards, partner organizations, etc.

  • Manage deadline tracking systems and ensure timely transmission of all required data sets.

  • Support cross-team requirements and development efforts for multiple projects.

  • Represent PVS, the school, and the department at internal and external conferences including preparing and delivering presentations.

  • Identify and lead opportunities for improvements to increase accuracy and efficiency.

  • Maintain departmental process and procedure documentation.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements :

  • Strong knowledge of SQL with experience querying large complex data models.

  • Proven experience with report design and ability to present data in a meaningful way using Power BI, Reporting Services and/or MS Excel

  • Ability to interpret technical file specification documents to produce error-free import files

  • Experience establishing procedures for data management and quality control

  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written including leading and owning the relationship with partner-customers and resolving conflicts

  • Excellent project management, organizational and planning skills with the ability to balance multiple tasks and competing deadlines

  • Experience with Salesforce data structures

  • Customer Centric – Acts with a strong customer mindset (both internal and external) and is a visible advocate for the customer. Builds strong partnerships with customers and uses those to improve their experience and outcomes.

  • Communications - A great communicator who engages teams and stakeholders with thoughtful delivery and messages that resonate.

Desirable

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Math, Statistics, Education, Social Science, Research, or related field

  • Desirable - Experience in California K-12 State Reporting (CALPADS), and/or Aeries Student information System a plus

Due to the nature of this position, the applicant will need the ability to work from home or during off-hours as necessary.

Candidate available to work during business hours in Pacific Time Zone preferred. (California)

Compensation at Pearson is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and specific location. As required by the California, Colorado, Hawaii, Maryland, New York State, New York City, Washington State, and Washington DC laws, the pay range for this position is as follows:

The minimum full-time salary range is between $64,000 - $79,000 per annum.
