Job Title: Diesel Mechanic

Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Diesel Mechanic with a strong background in servicing and repairing heavy equipment, including heavy haul trucks, excavators, large material handlers, tractors, and other heavy machinery. The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years of experience working on diesel engines and hydraulic systems in a heavy equipment environment. Experience with Caterpillar (CAT) or Terex (TEC) equipment is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Service and repair heavy equipment such as heavy haul trucks, excavators, large material handlers, and tractors.

• Diagnose and troubleshoot issues with diesel engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems.

• Perform preventive maintenance on equipment to ensure optimal performance.

• Read and interpret service manuals, schematics, and technical documents.

• Utilize diagnostic tools and equipment for troubleshooting and repairs.

• Conduct welding and fabrication tasks as needed.

• Ensure compliance with OSHA safety standards.

• Work independently and as part of a team to complete tasks efficiently.

• Maintain accurate records of repairs and maintenance performed.

Essential Skills

• Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience as a diesel mechanic, specifically working on heavy equipment.

• Strong experience with diesel engine systems, hydraulic systems, and electrical components.

• Familiarity with CAT and TEC equipment.

• Ability to read and interpret service manuals, schematics, and technical documents.

• Experience using diagnostic tools and equipment for troubleshooting.

• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

• Ability to work independently and in a team environment.

• Ability to work safely and efficiently in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• OSHA 10 certification.

• Experience with preventive maintenance procedures.

• Knowledge of pneumatics and transmissions.

• Ability to perform welding tasks.

• Experience with dozers and construction equipment.

Work Environment

The work environment is a heavy industrial setting at a large steel plant. The work area can be dusty and dirty. Steel-toe boots are required. The work schedule is not weather-dependent unless conditions are unsafe. Shift 1: Sunday - Thursday (12-hour shifts); Shift 2: Friday - Tuesday (12-hour shifts). Shift assignments will be based on experience and skills.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Trinity, Alabama.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $33.00/hr.
