JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Penn State University Press, a division of the Pennsylvania State University Libraries and Scholarly Communications, is seeking an experienced candidate to join the team as a Financial Assistant - Part-Time. The part-time Financial Assistant position will report directly to the Senior Director of Administrative and Financial Services and will work closely with the Director of the Press, the Press Department Heads, and the University Libraries Financial Officer as it relates to understanding financial data, streamlining processes that are in place, and finding solutions to complex problems. The part-time Financial Assistant position will be scheduled for up to 12 hours of work per week and an appropriate schedule will be discussed with interview candidates. Hours may be increased up to a maximum of 20 hours per week, on a temporary basis, during particularly busy times with the mutual agreement of both the part-time Financial Assistant and the Senior Director of Administrative and Financial Services.

Candidates that apply should be proactive, energetic, and highly organized. Qualified candidates should embrace the use of technology and university systems (SIMBA, InOrder, etc.) to assist in solving complex problems, embrace flexibility and change, be able to manage multiple requests in a timely manner, be able to communicate effectively and efficiently across the organization, and be able to work in a collaborative/team environment.

This position will be performed fully remotely with the option for hybrid, in-office work (not required).

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

  • Participate in the onboarding and training of individuals in future financial positions within the Press.

  • Assist with the processing and inputting of book sales reports, including the backlogged queue of sales reports, as requested.

  • Assist with budget-related activities for the Press as needed, including preparation, oversight, and tracking.

  • Participate in regular meetings with the Director of the Penn State Press to discuss the financial standing and processes of the Press.

  • Perform finance-related tasks as requested by the Senior Director of Administrative and Financial Services, in consultation with the Director of the Penn State Press, as capacity allows.

This position will require successful completion of standard background checks.
