JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS: We are searching for a motivated, self-starter to act as Systems Operation Manager on our Information Technology Services team at the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State University. ARL's purpose is to research and develop innovative solutions to challenging scientific, engineering, and technology problems in support of the Navy, the Department of Defense (DoD), and the Intel Community (IC). You will be responsible for leading and managing our Enterprise Systems Administrator team.

Responsibilities include:

Guide, mentor, and support employees and day-to-day operations within the ARL Enterprise Systems Administrator team, ensuring function, reliability, compliance, and secure configuration of ARL's enterprise server infrastructure

Collaborate with Infrastructure Manager and other ITS/Cyber leadership to mature enterprise IT architecture, capacity planning, service delivery, and security

Serve as the top-level subject matter expert on administration of enterprise server infrastructure

Direct the testing and implementation of emerging technologies while applying security best practices and required compliance measures

Conduct risk assessments to determine residual level of risk and any required mitigations, and set team priorities when responding to system and network security vulnerabilities

Oversee the implementation of required policies, procedures, and configurations; provide recommendations for continual service improvements

Work collaboratively with research and support offices, as well as IT peers, to enhance and support server infrastructure services

Communicate effectively with customers, designated vendors, and trade or industry organizations, ensuring alignment with the best interests of ARL and Penn State

This position will be filled as an IT Infrastructure Manager (Management). Minimally requires a Bachelor's Degree with 8+ years of relevant experience, including 3+ years of supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required skills and experience include:

Demonstrated experience in the enterprise level administration of both Windows and Linux systems

Knowledge and experience with Infrastructure Core Services: Active Directory management; Virtualization (VMware) administration; and maintenance of secure Windows and Linux servers

Experience operating and leading technical teams / projects in a high-security research computing environment

Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD 8140/8570 certification or higher (Security+, CASP+, CySA+).

Success in an environment where various forms of communication and organizational skills were crucial to be effective

Demonstrated ability to work through difficult problems, using proper steps to identify, define, and formulate ideas that produce results

Preferred skills and experience include (not mandatory to apply for this position):

A current, fully adjudicated Top Secret (Tier 5) clearance

Minimum of four years' experience within a DoD-type environment, which should include knowledge in NIST/ISO standards, DoD directives, and regulatory requirements (800-171/53 and STIGs)

The proposed salary range may be impacted by geographic differential.

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is: $97,100.00 - $145,700.00
