Job Summary
The Associate Director for Employee Relations and Human Resources has primary responsibility for employee relations, talent acquisition, employee leaves, and workplace accommodations. They serve as a subject matter expert by providing counsel and advice to F&S team members and department leaders regarding employment, classification, compensation, employee relations, HR policies and procedures, and general HR issues.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Oversee and manage human resource activities, initiatives, and services for F&S, including talent acquisition; new hire and employment processing and onboarding; employee relations, leaves of absence (i.e. FMLA, Workers\' Compensation), workplace accommodations, and policy and regulatory interpretation.
- Manage ERHR staff. Establish work and professional goals; manage workload and priorities; manage staff performance and provides guidance to maintain organizational effectiveness and performance standards.
- Develop and implement effective talent acquisition and employee relations practices that align with department and university strategic goals.
- Facilitate compliance with system, university, and departmental policies and procedures. Advise leaders regarding policies, procedures, and regulations, and develop strategies related to employment, performance management, discipline, and accommodations.
- Manage and facilitate ad hoc and ongoing projects, including establishing timelines, identifying resources, determining tasks, and ensuring deliverables. Provides written reports and/or justification to support project efforts.
- May represent F&S at negotiations of collective bargaining agreements between the University and unions that have bargaining unit members within the units.
- In conjunction with the organizational development staff, develops and coordinates appropriate training opportunities on HR topics including but not limited to department and campus policies, employment laws and regulations, search processes, and performance management.
- Serves as a subject matter expert and contact for HR systems (HRFE, JDX, Cornerstone, VSL).
- Analyzes the impact of changes in HR best practices, relevant legislation, regulations, rules, policies, and procedures, etc. and proposes changes to F&S policies and procedures to bring the department into compliance.
- Represents ERHR on internal and university-wide committees/taskforces as assigned.
- Serve as a liaison to Illinois Human Resources, the Office of Access and Equity, Workers Compensation on human resources, EEO/AA, and workers compensation matters.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor\'s degree in Human Resource Administration, Management, Organizational Administration, Public Administration, Labor Relations, Business Administration or a field closely related to the position.
- Seven (7) years (84 months) of work experience performing professional-level human resources duties.
- Demonstrated experience in human resources, labor & employee relations, or other related areas in a university setting.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master\'s degree preferred.

Appointment Information
This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 5020 - Human Resource Associate position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after 4/14/2025. The budgeted salary for this position is \$95,000-\$105,000.
