The Safety Representative is responsible for administering and overseeing the health and safety programs of the company\'s safety program to ensure a safe, productive, healthy, and accident free work environment across all of our locations and jobsites in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Ohio.
Essential Functions
- Works under the general direction of the Safety Director
- Ensures health and safety is the number one goal by following policies, processes, and acting in safe manner at all times
- Champions the company\'s culture of safety and supports a culture of safety-first behaviors and decisions
- Develops current and comprehensive knowledge of all applicable state, federal and local health and safety regulations/laws/requirements affecting the business
- Creates and files all required reports
- Prepares reports for Safety Director
- Develop annual internal audit schedule; conducts job site internal audits
- Meets deadlines
- Leads health and safety training
- Identifies safety training needs
- Ensures required training is conducted; develops an annual schedule
- Assist in development of safety training curriculum
- Audits older safety training materials for updating
- Conducts new hire orientation and safety training
- Role model for a safe workplace
- Assist with the development of strategies, policies and programs to instill a safe culture.
- Determines the appropriateness of introducing targeted safety initiatives
- Assist with development of metrics for measuring the effectiveness of corporate safety initiatives
- Keep current on safety programs and developments by maintaining contact with others in the field (e.g., professional association and educational groups, and professional development efforts)
- Serves on safety committees and collaborates with other HCM entities, as needed
- Promotes safety and health awareness through internal company memoranda, newsletters and specific training program
- Investigates incidents
- Conducts investigation and analysis of property damage/injury/illness/near miss reports
- Identifies root cause of incident and implements corrective action
- Completes required reporting
- Acts as a liaison with medical personnel/insurance claims adjusters
- Maintains highest levels of confidentiality
- Communicates with internal/external customers
- Answers inquiries via phone, email or in-person
- Develops effective relationships with employees, peers and managers
- Provides highest levels of quality and service
- Demonstrates high levels of integrity and credibility through effective communication
- Promotes and maintains personal safety
- Exhibits safe work behaviors
- Wears all prescribed PPE
- Travel to multiple state job sites and satellite offices is required. Some overnight travel may be necessary
Education Qualifications
- Required Bachelor\'s Degree in Safety Management, Construction Management or related discipline; or equivalent work experience is preferred
Experience Qualifications
- Preferred 1+ years in a previous experience in a corporate safety position is preferred

- Strong computer / technological skills; Proficiency in Microsoft Suite programs

- Ability to work a flexible schedule as business needs require
- Ability to work in extreme weather conditions on heavy highway construction sites
- Ability to travel
- Participate in safety briefings, job briefings, and other meetings - pass on i formation from team members, management or customer
- Must be able to work with a team, take direction, follow work rules, and take on additional job responsibilities as needed or assigned
- Perform all work in compliance with company standards, procedures, and regulatory requirements
- Must possess and exhibit excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently
Licenses and Certifications
- Valid drivers license is required Required
- OSHA & CPR certification preferred Preferred
Evergreen Roadworks Pay Transparency
- The compensation for this posiiton is \$60,000 per year.
- This position is also eligible for an annual bonus, and health and retirement benefits.
