Manufacturing Engineer – Suspension Assembly Systems

Overview

As a Manufacturing Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing manufacturing processes for a variety of automotive components, including EV batteries, PHEV batteries, PDBs, VSAs, exo-structure sheet metal assemblies, and sensor assemblies. Your role will involve creating detailed procedures, documenting processes, and ensuring efficient production from initial project sourcing through SOP +90 days or as required for corporate employees or launch through EOP plant employees. You may also support the implementation of engineering changes for current production products.

What You Will Do:

Project Management and Coordination

  • Plan, coordinate, and implement assigned projects.

  • Develop and track capital investment budgets for assigned projects.

  • Manage and communicate capital equipment timing plans and open issues to the program team.

  • Gather baseline program information with Program Management/Business Development to supply statements of work, bills of materials, and initial program timing.

Process Development and Documentation

  • Develop RFQs and Equipment Specifications for capital and tooling requirements, including all contract services, prior to SOP.

  • Create Prototype and Production Process Documentation through SOP +90 days, including Process Flow, Cycle Time Analysis, PFMEA, and Work Instructions.

  • Transfer all equipment and process documentation to the production plant prior to SOP, including OEM Equipment Documentation.

Production Systems Design

  • Oversee production processes development and final approvals, including work cell layout, ergonomic workstation design, and line balancing.

  • Program torque control systems and select error and mistake-proofing devices.

  • Design initial plant floor layout and PFEP, including material flow and storage.

Training and Support

  • Coordinate initial training for new equipment or process changes.

  • Support the engineering cost estimator by providing quoted assumptions for assembly processes, capital/tooling investments, and labor requirements.

Supplier and Equipment Management

  • Evaluate new suppliers, products, and technologies to maintain a competitive edge.

  • Provide guidance in equipment and capital selection to the Purchasing Department.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work with internal and customer program teams to develop and launch products into production.

  • Support engineering-related communication, including technical presentations, design reviews, capacity analysis, and feasibility studies.

Process Improvement and Lean Initiatives

  • Drive lean concepts (5S, Kanban, Visual Factory, TPM, etc.) throughout the organization.

  • Implement process improvements to enhance overall efficiencies, including automation.

  • Benchmark processes and equipment throughout the industry and incorporate best practices into standards.

Problem Solving and Crisis Management

  • Address and resolve issues at all sites as directed or required. Support the team during crisis management.

Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of assembly requirements for all automotive component systems, with an emphasis on suspension module assemblies.

  • Knowledge of manual and automated assembly systems and technologies, including mechanical and control systems.

  • Familiarity with JIT, SPD, ILVS, and batch manufacturing systems, including broadcast analysis from customer trigger through installation.

  • Knowledge of industrial safety standards and requirements.

  • Ability to analyze business labor efficiencies, capital investments, and historical data to calculate product costs.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint, AutoCAD LT, and various CAD viewers.

  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and motivate others.

  • Willingness to travel as required to support new launches, engineering changes, or production-related activities (typically no more than 1-2 weeks at a time, estimated 6-12 weeks annually). Note - no sponsorship is available for this role. US Citizen / Green Card Holders only.

Pay Details: $100,000.00 to $120,000.00 per year
