This hybrid role requires the incumbent to by onsite two of less days a week.

Position serves as a key advisor to PeaceHealth leadership and colleagues on the PeaceHealth legal team. Provides legal advice/counsel and oversight on a broad range of legal, transactional, risk, and regulatory topics with a special emphasis on physician contracting, medical staff matters, and physician group and other acquisitions and joint ventures.

Essential Functions:

  • Presents to, advises, and interacts with the PeaceHealth’s management team and other senior leaders to facilitate an understanding of the salient legal and regulatory risk issues facing PeaceHealth.

  • Utilizes strong legal and business acumen to work effectively to integrate and coordinate the key strategic initiatives and business unit operations of the organization.

  • Coordinates internal and outside legal experts to provide advice and counsel regarding state and federal laws, rules and regulations applicable to PeaceHealth, including but not limited to HIPAA, Medicare, Medicaid, Stark law, Anti-Kickback law, and False Claims Act.

  • Prepares, reviews, and edits legal documents and filings.

  • Conducts legal research and analysis.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school.

  • Minimum of 3 years demonstrated experience as a practicing attorney of health care and business law.

  • Substantive expertise in state and federal regulations as they pertain to health care organizations.

  • Experience advising on physician group business transactions, including acquisitions and joint ventures.

  • Demonstrated leadership competencies.

  • Member in good standing with the Oregon or Washington State Bar.

Skills:

  • Excellent judgment and proven experience analyzing risks and making risk determinations.

  • Ability to operate in a complex and matrixed corporate environment.

  • Strong collaborative leader with counterparts in compliance and regulatory affairs.

  • Extensive knowledge of health care laws including Stark, Anti-kickback, False Claims Act and familiarity with licensure, certification and accreditation requirements is importance.

  • Strong business acumen with healthcare experience.

Working Conditions:

  • Consistently operates computer and other office equipment.

  • Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.

  • Sedentary work.

  • Predominantly operates in an office environment.

  • Some time spent on site in medical/hospital setting.

  • Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.

  • The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.

The salry range for this job opening at PeaceHealth is $151,000.00 – $226,000.00 annually. The hiring rate is dependent upon several factors, including but not limited to education, training, work experience, terms of any applicable collective bargaining agreement, seniority, etc.
