Overview

Utah State University (USU) Extension in Uintah County is seeking a part-time (20 hours per week) Substance Use and Outreach Specialist to host educational workshops and community outreach under the State Opioid Response (SOR) grant. This position will play a vital role in addressing substance use in Uintah County by coordinating and implementing hands-on prevention programs at no cost to participants. The ideal candidate will have experience in substance use disorder prevention education, knowledge of risk and protective factors, and the ability to engage and teach both youth and adults.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Design, coordinate, and implement educational workshops and prevention activities throughout Uintah County.

  • Serve as a principal liaison between USU Extension, community organizations, and stakeholders.

  • Facilitate Naloxone training sessions and other public health education initiatives.

  • Organize and lead interactive workshops focused on protective factors for substance use prevention, including social engagement and hands-on artistic expression.

  • Monitor and track program participation, collect data for reporting, and ensure grant compliance.

  • Develop educational materials, promotional content, and outreach strategies to increase community engagement.

  • Assist with program budgeting and fiscal reporting.

  • Train and support volunteers or other staff engaged in program activities.

  • Perform other duties as assigned to support program objectives.

     

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

 

  • Experience in substance use disorder prevention, community outreach, public health, or related fields.

  • Familiarity with protective and risk factors related to substance use prevention.

  • Ability to effectively teach and engage with both youth and adult populations.

  • Comfortable conducting Naloxone training sessions.

  • Strong organizational and communication skills.

  • Program evaluation experience

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor's degree (BS or BA) in Public Health, Social Work, Education, or a related field.

Experience working with rural and tribal communities.

  • Knowledge of USU Extension programs and community engagement strategies.

  • Experience managing grant-funded programs, including tracking deliverables, collecting data, and preparing required reports
