Job Title: Forklift Mechanic

Job Description

The Forklift Mechanic position requires a comprehensive understanding of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical troubleshooting and repair of diesel and electrical equipment. Candidates must possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills. They will be responsible for repairing and overhauling major assemblies and systems, including power train differentials, transaxles, electronic fuel injection systems, emission control systems, and related sub-assemblies.

Responsibilities

  • Repair or overhaul major assemblies and systems such as power train differentials, transaxles, electronic fuel injection systems, and emission control systems.

  • Perform troubleshooting and repair of mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and electronic systems.

  • Follow instructions in technical manuals to repair and overhaul equipment.

  • Communicate orally and in writing in English and follow verbal and written commands.

  • Use industry-standard tools and test equipment, including engine analyzers, dynamometers, injector tests, voltmeters, gauges, micrometers, calipers, and dial indicators.

  • Interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and control schematics.

  • Read technical manuals and order proper parts.

  • Troubleshoot and isolate problems in MHE/SMSE and perform repairs as needed.

  • Identify and order correct replacement parts when necessary.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum of 5 years' experience as a mechanic on the repair and overhaul of shipboard MHE and SMSE for General Mechanic.

  • Minimum of 2 years' work-related experience and an unexpired ASE certification for Junior Mechanic.

  • Ability to repair or overhaul major assemblies and systems.

  • Experience with diesel engine repair, suspension and steering, transmissions, transaxles, brakes, and electrical/electronic systems.

  • Proficiency in using test equipment such as engine analyzers, dynamometers, injector tests, voltmeters, gauges, micrometers, calipers, and dial indicators.

  • Ability to interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and control schematics.

  • Ability to read technical manuals and order proper parts.

  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair MHE/SMSE.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Non-expired ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certification for Junior Mechanics.

  • Ability to obtain DBIDS.

You will be working at NNSY or NOB. The work environment requires the use of various technologies and equipment, and adherence to safety protocols. The position may involve working independently at customer sites without supervision, requiring critical thinking and judgment.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $35.00
