Zero Point, Inc Senior Accountant in Virginia Beach, Virginia
PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF POSITION: The Senior Accountant reports to the Senior Vice President of Administration. Primary responsibilities include managing daily financial transactions and tasks related to all facets of the Company, and maintaining the accuracy and integrity of the ERP and other company systems consistent with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), and corporate ethics, goals, and objectives. A proficient level of accounting, business experience and judgment are required to plan and accomplish goals. Performance of responsibilities is expected to be completed on an accurate and timely basis, and with minimal supervision.
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Prepares and ensures accuracy and integrity of accounting and transactional records to ensure proper financial reporting
Processes and maintains assigned ad hoc or recurring journal entries in a timely and accurate manner
Reviews accounting policies and procedures and recommends modifications
Prepares the month-end closing
Prepares correspondence and documents and completes special projects
Compiles and prepares financial statements in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
Audits, analyzes and approves accounting transactions for accuracy and compliance with GAAP
Maintains financial databases with servicing and / or collateral information
Analyzes general ledger accounts for accuracy; analyzes accrual accounts to ensure proper accruals
Prepares bank account, general ledger, and petty cash reconciliations and conducts periodic audits of petty cash funds
Researches, collects and analyzes financial data for submission of required reporting
Provides analysis and recommendations based on financial data
Stays informed about relevant regulations, especially those related to cost accounting standards
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
A bachelor's degree in finance, accounting or business administration required
A minimum of 2-5 years of relevant experience
Strong understanding of financial principles, including budgeting, forecasting, cost analysis, and financial reporting
Proficiency in data analysis, financial modeling, and the ability to interpret financial data to support decision-making
A high level of accuracy and attention to detail is crucial in maintaining precise financial records and ensuring compliance
Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential for effective collaboration with cross-functional teams, clients, and subcontractors
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, as well as familiarity with financial management software and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems
Ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate with colleagues from various departments
Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines in a dynamic work environment
Adherence to ethical standards and a commitment to maintaining confidentiality and integrity in financial transactions and reporting
