Design Director - Landscape Architecture

Parsons is looking for an amazingly talented Landscape Architecture Design Director to join our team! In this role you will be responsible for the creative vision and narrative for the studio’s projects, whether working with an immediate creative team or with the wider studio teams. This position is responsible for co-managing the design studio from a design perspective for the successful delivery of landscape projects to high quality standards of design in accordance with the Client’s expectations.
The Design Director will be required to demonstrate an expert understanding of local and international design of landscape architecture and urban design and have a thorough knowledge of the pre and post master plan design stages.
What You'll Be Doing:
Lead and drive the creative vision and design direction for the studio’s regional projects.
Ensure design quality by developing own concepts and reviewing those of others, ensuring the vision remains throughout the project lifecycle.
Stay ahead of trends and innovations in landscape architecture to incorporate into projects.
Oversee multiple landscape architecture projects from concept to completion, ensuring they are delivered on time and within budget.
Manage the design process, starting at the Concept Master Plan stage in close collaboration with the studio’s Master Planning team.
Develop design strategies, vision and narratives for the Concept and Detail Master Plans and ensure these are aligned, followed and developed into the post master plan design stages.
Manage the design direction for closely related sub-consultants such as lighting and signage and wayfinding.
Coordinate with project managers, engineers, architects, urban designers, and other professionals to integrate landscape design with other disciplines.
Directly lead a team of design focused landscape architects and graphical support staff, providing mentorship, guidance and development plans.
Foster a collaborative environment that encourages creativity and innovation.
Ensure that the team follows design principles and quality standards while meeting project deadlines.
Maintain strong relationships with clients, ensuring that their vision and goals are understood and met.
Present design concepts and updates to clients, addressing feedback and adjusting designs accordingly.
Participate in presentations and interviews as part of business development.
Represent the firm at industry events and build relationships with potential clients and stakeholders.
Manage project budgets and ensure that resources are allocated efficiently.
Review project documentation and ensure the design and technical standards are met.
Ensure that sustainability and environmental considerations are incorporated into all designs.
Perform other related tasks as required
What Required Skills You'll Bring:
Minimum twenty (20+) years of continuous experience in landscape architecture. International experience in North America, Europe, Middle East and Asia is preferrable.
Bachelor of Landscape Architecture from an accredited University or College program.
Team Orientated: Demonstrate a team oriented and collaborative approach to landscape architecture within the design team.
Innovative Thinker: Constantly looking for creative ways to address challenges and improve design outcomes.
Collaborative: Works well with various teams, from designers to contractors, and integrates multiple perspectives into the design process.
Sustainable Focus: A strong commitment to environmentally sustainable and resilient design practices.
Problem-Solving: Ability to quickly address and resolve issues that arise during the design and construction phases.
Information Technology: Demonstrate an understanding of key design related computer programs such as BIM, Adobe suites and 3D modeling software.
What Desired Skills You'll Bring:
Possess professional registration, licensure or chartership with an internationally recognized professional association.
Fluency in English, verbal and written. Proficiency in other languages, especially Arabic, is highly regarded.
