V2X Shipbuilder/Fitter/Welder Training Foreman in Marshall Islands

Overview

This position is physically located in the Marshall Islands in support of LOGCAP

Under the Supervision and direction of the Marine Repair Superintendent, the Shipbuilder/Fitter/ Welder Training Foreman assigns, coordinates, trains, and evaluates team of semi-skilled and skilled weld shop personnel according to their ability, experience, and job knowledge to support welding and fabrication repairs in shipyard operations for all vessels assigned to USAG-KA and related facilities and equipment.

Responsibilities

This position description is subject to change at any time as needed to meet the requirements of the program or company.

  • Coordinates, trains, and evaluates team of semi-skilled and skilled trades personnel according to their ability, experience, and job knowledge to support welding and fabrication production in shipyard repair and fabrication operations.

  • Conducts on-the-job training of subordinates.

  • Fabricate and weld all parts requiring repair on all appropriate USAG-KA vessels including aluminum and steel hull vessels.

  • Must be proficient in all welding processes including mig/tig and stick in aluminum, stainless and carbon steel.

  • Apply appropriate welding processes to join, surface, fabricate, or repair parts of metal or other weld-able materials

  • Position pieces to be welded into jigs, holding fixtures, guides, and steps using measuring instruments and hand tools.

  • Lay-out and marks points on parts or subassemblies using rule, square, scribe or templates.

  • Conducting of vessel Technical Inspections of vessel structure and hull

  • Perform Non-destructive testing (NDT)

  • Establishes and maintains standard practice plans for repair and maintenance of vessel hulls and other components.

  • Prepares written reports per company and regulatory agency directives.

  • Inspect completed work for conformance to specifications

  • Utilizes blueprints, technical manuals, and drawings to perform work;

  • Participates in special projects as required.

  • Recommends welding repairs to the Marine Repair Superintendent and Port Engineer for vessels requiring extensive repair on dry dock and afloat

  • Accurately maintains an inventory of all equipment and supplies; and ensures supplies are used in an efficient manner.

  • Generates work plans for assigned projects, including estimates of parts, supplies, material, and labor required.

  • Assists in operation, maintenance and repair of the Syncrolift.

  • Supports on-island vessel dry dockings, as well as, supporting maintenance and repairs on other equipment, and systems assigned to Marine Services.

  • Ensures repair facilities are kept neat, clean, and in good working order.

  • Harmoniously working with other employees and customers.

  • Working with the Project Principals to fully coordinate all activities.

  • Timely and cost-effective performance of duties.

  • Adherence to established company safety policies and good industrial and office safety practices.

  • Completing all mandated training requirements per government and management directives.

  • Ensures the proper Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) for the assigned tasks is worn at all times.

  • Ensures safety, operational, and appearance standards are maintained by all subordinates.

  • Ensure compliances with Federal, State, and Company policies and regulations.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Education/Certifications: One year related experience may be substituted for one year of education if the degree is required.

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Minimum Qualifications: Current or past nationally recognized welding certificate (NAVSEA, American Bureau of Shipping, American Welding Society, or similar) in Stick/Mig/Tig steel and/or Mig/Tig Aluminum welding.

  • Experience:

  • Fifteen (15) years’ experience in shipbuilding or shipyard repair experience.

  • Skills:

  • Knowledge of Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and storage requirements to meet compatibility of products based on hazard class is required.

  • Strong interpersonal skills are required.

  • Ability to exercise discretion and good judgement is required.

  • Attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy is required.

  • Advance ability to communicate in English, both verbally and in written form is required.

  • High-level organizational and planning skills, so that workflow is managed and accurate is required.

  • Working Conditions:

  • Must be capable of working in an extreme weather conditions with temperatures exceeding 120 degrees Fahrenheit.

  • Indoor and/or outdoor environment with very adverse and harsh conditions (i.e., hot, dry, duty, desert environment with average temperatures of 30 degrees in the winter and 130 degrees in the summer months). Includes some industrial production environment conditions as well.

  • Physical Requirements:

  • Medium and up to Heavy work. Exerting up to 50 pounds to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

  • Work may require heavy lifting, stooping, climbing, prolonged standing, prolonged sitting, and working with or in areas where a potential could exist for exposure to physical, chemical, or biological agents.

  • Employee use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required for some situations. PPE includes, but is not limited to, head, foot, torso, respiratory, vision, and hearing protective devices.

  • Must comply with all Fire and Safety Regulations and post policies.
