UL, LLC Tax Manager, APAC in Singapore

We are seeking a progressive and forward-thinking tax manager to join our finance team overseeing our tax matters in the APAC region, with a direct reporting line to the US Headquarters Tax Department in Chicago, Illinois USA.

This role will manage various tax compliance, tax accounting, tax audit and strategy matters in UL Solution’s APAC region, including Singapore, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Korea and Japan . The person should have experience with both income taxes and indirect taxes (GST/VAT) and keep up to date on tax technology skills to help implement advanced automated solutions that drive efficiencies.   • Quarterly and year-end preparation or review of APAC legal entity income tax provisions in accordance with US and local statutory GAAP, and support local accounting teams with related tax accounting work including reconciliations of income tax payable accounts and return-to-provision computations.

  • Ensure analytics and accuracy of the effective tax rate components and deferred tax balances for APAC affiliate entities and identify tax risks that may require tax reserves.

  • Manage the APAC income tax compliance process by collaborating with outsourced tax preparers/advisors and internal accounting teams to file local country income tax returns on an accurate and timely basis.

  • Regional oversight and management of local country tax audits (both income tax and indirect tax) as required and in partnership with local accounting teams, the Senior Director of Tax Planning and Director overseeing transfer pricing (both located in the US) to best position the Company for successful audit resolutions.

  • Assist with cash tax forecasting for UL Solution’s APAC affiliate entities.

  • Tracking and budgeting of regional municipality taxes, business licenses taxes/fees and certain tax professional fees.

  • Champion operational excellence through process improvement, leveraging best practices, supporting the evolution of tax software tools, and promoting automation and technology to enhance efficiency and scalability.

  • Support the Corporate Tax Headquarters team and/or cross-functional teams on tax planning, internal restructurings, and new business initiatives as needed.

  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal partners and peers in accounting/finance, external consultants and statutory auditors.

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. A Master’s degree in Tax/Accounting or an equivalent advanced degree is highly desirable.

  • 6+ years of extensive tax experience in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, ideally including experience at a Big 4 accounting firm and/or US-based multinational corporations reporting under US GAAP.

  • Proficient in technology, with strong skills in Excel, ERP systems, and familiarity with tax software being an advantage.

  • In-depth knowledge of GST/VAT and common income tax compliance issues.

  • Expertise in tax accounting principles, including tax provision calculations, with a preference for US GAAP and/or IFRS experience.

  • Experience with reporting requirements for public companies.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively across functions and borders.

  • Proven ability to be hands-on, detail-oriented, resourceful, and focused on achieving results.

  • Exceptional multitasking abilities, with experience working collaboratively across teams in multiple geographic locations.

  • Strong project management capabilities.

  • Excellent communication, writing, and presentation skills in English.

  • Willingness to accommodate early morning and late-night calls with stakeholders outside of Singapore.
