Job Description

The Network Engineer II, operating under general direction, is tasked with executing complex, specialized network engineering functions, including troubleshooting, analysis, research, and problem-solving. This role involves planning, forecasting, and implementing network backbone infrastructures, including wireless technologies, of moderate complexity. The engineer will also identify resource requirements to effectively support the Texas A&M AgriLife network on and off campus.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides assistance to customers with basic and complex IT work in one or more areas of technical specialization. Provides advanced technical assistance.

  • Work with ticketing systems.

  • Attends client and/or vendor meetings.

  • Assists with complex documentation and problem tracking.

  • Applies quality standards and ensures all work is accurate and in compliance with departmental or project quality standards.

  • Manage and maintain Wireless network across Texas.

  • Assists with the management of Microsoft Phone Service and device management.

  • Assists network engineer with network monitoring, management, maintenance, and equipment installation as needed.

  • Assists on the team projects.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Three years of related experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications.

  • Knowledge of intermediate IT troubleshooting.

  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

  • Excellent written communication, analytical, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

  • Experience in Aruba switches, Aruba wireless and Unifi.

  • LAN/WAN fundamentals such as protocols, IP, IPsec, DNS, DHCP, ARP and subnetting.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Experience in IT certifications in either hardware, software or cloud-based environments.

  • Experience in Ubiquiti Unifi controller and cloud management.

  • Experience in HPE iMC.

  • Experience in MS Teams Audio/Video Collaboration equipment management.
