Structural Engineer

Job Summary

POWER Engineers is seeking a Structural Engineer to work in the Power Delivery Substation Department in our Portland office located Lake Oswego, Oregon. Flexibility is available for a hybrid work environment (candidate will need to live within a commutable distance of the office).

Responsibilities

The Structural Engineer will share responsibility with the rest of the department to produce a product consistent with POWER's mission statement and our culture. They are expected to support the department in achieving the department goals, maintain POWER's high-quality standards, promote internal teamwork, and meet the needs of our clients.

  • Perform all aspects of substation structural design, including steel performance and fabrication drawings, and foundation design

  • Develop steel and concrete construction specifications, cost estimates, engineering proposals, and project schedules

  • Understand and ensure compliance with structural code requirements

  • Coordinate with all disciplines involved in electrical substation design

  • Prepare calculation packages to meet client and code requirements

  • Conduct QA/QC for deliverables

  • Support Project Manager and Project Engineer with project reporting needs and proposal development

  • Mentor and train team members

  • Adhere to client standards and processes while completing complex designs

  • Occasional travel may be required

Required Education/Experience

  • BSCE (Bachelor of Science in Civil/Structural Engineering) from an accredited institution

  • 4+ years of structural design experience

  • Proficiency in finite element modeling (Risa3D or STAAD Pro)

  • Experience with structural analysis, concrete and steel design, soil mechanics, and foundation design

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects concurrently

  • Ability to perform calculations for steel structures and concrete foundations

  • Proven mentoring skills

  • Strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills in order to work effectively with internal team members and external client personnel

  • Legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. without the need for work sponsorship

Desired Education/Experience

  • 5+ years of structural engineering experience

  • Experience in seismic design

  • Experience with RISA, MathCAD, LPile, and STAAD

  • Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam

  • Professional Engineering license (PE) or the ability to obtain licensure in multiple states

  • Experience managing multiple projects concurrently, including budgets and schedules
