Josiah White's First Aid Administrative Assistant in Wabash, Indiana

This position will be responsible for clerical tasks and working with and transporting youth to appointments. They will ensure that each of Josiah Whites students in the Residential Services program has his or her total health care needs met in an efficient and practical manner. Must demonstrate sensitivity to our service populations culture and socioeconomic characteristics and needs.

Must be an individual with strong convictions who is also in agreement with Whites mission statement, Statement of Faith, and Code of Conduct. The person in this position must have a high school diploma or equivalent and be 21 years of age or older. This individual must be a team player who works well with a wide variety of people. They must be able to work autonomously and be able to prioritize.

Basic Responsibilities

Maintain accurate medical records on each student.

Organize dentist trips and obtain transporters for dental trips, will also Transport.

Prepare electronic med clinic records prior to Med clinic on Tuesdays. Prepare and collect data for each student.

Obtain current vital signs for students being seen for med clinics.

Administer First aid, when necessary.

Learn computerized software, document all medical, dental, vision, and health care notes.

Obtain medical history, make calls to obtain previous medical, dental and vision records.

Communicate with medical doctors, nurses, staff members, and students.

Assist nurses, doctors, and Nurse Practitioners during visits on campus

Case manage prescriptions and medical supplies when needed

Set up new student charts and medical passports

Conduct initial intake medical screenings with new students, which includes collecting medical history, showing and documenting nutritional video and sexual health education, obtaining vital signs, conducting vision, hearing and urine screenings, documenting necessary computerized charting, and arranging follow up medical, dental, and vision appointments.

Perform other duties as requested by Supervisor.

Properly discard discontinued medications.

Conduct pre-release height, weight, and vital signs.

General cleaning of work areas and equipment.

Assist and maintain up to date Immunization records-will require learning access to CHIRP

Assist with administering staff TB and flu shots, if certified to do so.

  1. This position requires a person to work with a minimum of supervision. Must be organized and dependable.
  2. Must be able to maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality.
  3. Must be able to communicate (both talk and listen) to students, family teachers, referring agencies, and physicians.
  4. Must be able to write legibly; take concise notes; and write letters to referring agencies and physicians.
  5. Must be willing to attend workshops, school, and other types of training to improve job skills and expertise.
  6. This person must be able to stay calm in crisis situations and assess medical emergencies.
  7. Must be committed to the mission, core values, and Vision of Josiah Whites.

Physical Demands of the Position

Must be able to work with students, including medical issues that may include exposure to bodily fluids.

Must be able to complete First Aid/CPR expectations per the Red Cross. Specifically, must be able to get down to the floor and stand back up to perform chest compressions to the depth of at least wo inches and give rescue breaths which includes getting on knee(s) and leaning forward without putting pressure on victims head.

Must be able to complete the MindSet physical restraint techniques for residents who are in crisis (expected to meet the requirements of MindSet physical restraints) in order to become certified. This may include the following:

Vertical Containment-Approach from behind the aggressor with arms raised. Initiate contact with your forearms to the aggressors triceps and push the arms forward.
