Crazy Horse School Wanblee Futures Program-Student Success Coach in Wanblee, South Dakota
This position will implement and lead academic improvement and tutoring efforts at the middle and high school level to prepare students for college-level academic programming. The coach will monitor student grades, test scores, attendance, and related metrics and intervene with students to ensure adequate growth and progress. Will also work with students and families to address and support student social emotional needs from the trauma in the community. The goal is for students to be proficient at their grade level and be career and college ready when they graduate from High School with a plan to enter postsecondary education. The coach will also work with parents and community stakeholders to build program investment and be a resource to teachers, counseling staff and principal.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
Visits with families as needed to assist students in successful academic performance and to prepare for post-secondary education.
Assists with intervention programs and to address the attendance and academic needs of students to graduate with their cohorts and enroll in postsecondary education.
Help with connections between the school and parents and encourage discussions connected to attendance and academic success.
Help students complete graduation and enroll in postsecondary education.
Arrange visits and activities for students with postsecondary visits to different campuses and institutions.
Knowledge of keeping necessary records files and information and work closely with administration and program director to help students have strong attendance.
Assist with student applications for postsecondary enrollment and scholarships, FAFSA competition and other paperwork needed to facilitate postsecondary enrollment.
Collaborate with parents/guardians and educators to assist students with educational, career, and life planning.
Works to blend the importance of Lakota history, culture, language and spirituality into the students education and career pathway.
Participates and helps plan cultural activities related to Lakota Language and Lifeways.
Assist Project Director and Coordinator with the monitoring of student academic progress.
Provide tutoring and instruction as necessary to help students stay on track to successfully graduate from High School in their cohort year and to start a career path in teaching and education or another path.
Encourage students to utilize technology to enhance learning and goals.
Participate in professional development activities to improve knowledge and skills.
Service as a communicator and liaison between the Wanblee Futures Program and parents of the students served in the program.
Work with families of the students served in the program to support students and encourage parental involvement and communication with Crazy Horse School and staff.
