Smithsonian Institution Associate Director, Facilities Sustainability and Resilience in Washington, District Of Columbia

Summary The Smithsonian Institution is the world’s largest museum, education, and research complex, with 21 museums and the National Zoo. This position is located in the office of Facilities Management and Reliability (OFMR). More than one selection may be made from this announcement. Responsibilities The Associate Director, Facilities Sustainability and Resilience, serves as the sustainability manager for OFMR and is responsible for developing, establishing, overseeing, and administering a comprehensive sustainability program in accordance with agency policy. In this position, you will: Work directly with other government agencies, Congress, and the White House to develop, coordinate and monitor sustainability initiatives and mandates such as those identified in Executive Orders (including but not limited to E. O. 14057). Develop sustainability reports, presentations, or proposals for suppliers, employees, academia, media, government officials, and organizations as well as public interest groups Function as the agency’s authoritative SME. Prepare and implements sustainability policies, programs, directives, and other critical initiatives. Prepare and execute the annual budget; monitor all budget activities; and recommend reallocations of budget resources as required. Defend budget proposals and prepares budget justifications. Supervise a group of employees at the GS-13 base level. They include several GS-13 engineers, a GS-14 supervisory engineer, a GS-13 sustainability manager, several GS-11/12 Program Analysts, and a GS-11 Program Specialist. Provide advice, counsel, and instructions to subordinates on work and administrative matters. Qualifications Experience: You qualify for this position if you have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-14 level in the Federal Service. For this position, specialized experience is defined as developing, implementing, and managing sustainability programs. Collaborating with leadership, stakeholders, and government agencies to establish sustainability goals, policies, and performance measures. Overseeing and managing sustainability projects, including budget development and formulation. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Part-time and/or unpaid experience related to this position will be considered to determine the total number of years and months of experience. Be sure to note the number of paid or unpaid hours worked each week. Education Additional Information This position is not included in the bargaining unit.
