Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP is a leading international law firm with more than 900 lawyers in offices throughout the United States, Europe, Asia and the Middle East. We are currently seeking an Intern to support the Human Resources department, reporting to the Director of Talent Management.
The role will reside in the Washington, DC office with hybrid work capabilities and will be responsible for providing general administrative and logistical support to the Human Resources department working closely with key contacts in each Human Resource function. The Human Resources Intern is expected to perform all responsibilities with a commitment to providing superior service to the firm’s attorneys, advisors and staff, and maintaining an atmosphere of teamwork and continuous improvement. Above all, the Human Resources Intern must fulfill the needs of the firm in a manner which is consistent with the Firm’s Core Values.
Key responsibilities of this position include :
Support the Learning and Development function by assisting with training logistics, conducting research on best practices and vendor capabilities.
Schedule interviews, conduct market research and assist in the creation of support material with the Recruiting team.
Assist the Talent Management team with internal client meeting preparation and follow-up.
Support logistics for the upcoming engagement survey to include meeting preparation, data review against other internal and external surveys
Coordinate with Conference Services to schedule rooms and order foods for various HR events, training, interviews, etc.
Work within the Firm’s local HR teams to support on-boarding processes; coordinating with Firm HR personnel as necessary.
Prepare paperwork and welcome material (including orientation packets, as necessary) for new hires.
Perform other administrative tasks or projects as needed.
Qualifications (Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities):
High school diploma required
Current university enrollment required; an interest and program of study in Human Resources or Organizational Development is a plus, though not required
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office including Excel, Outlook, Word and PowerPoint
Excellent interpersonal skills, including strong oral and written communication skills, discretion and tact
Commitment to maintain confidentiality of employee, office, firm and client information and adhering to the Firm’s Core Values
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Ability to manage multiple priorities and adjust to changing priorities and deadlines in a professional manner
Ability to work independently and with a team

Strong service orientation, and an ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with users, peers, office and firm management, and outside business partners
The base hourly range for this position in Washington, DC is $19.50 to $22.50.
