The Staff Electrical Engineer-Power Electronic Controls will be part of the Advance Commercial Technology team at Generac. This person will be involved in the early evaluation and development of new technologies that support our diverse product line. The Staff Engineer-Power Electronic Controls will create and evaluate new control algorithms, embedded code, and circuits to support new power-electronic technology development. This person will support development of controls in other disciplines as well. This person will contribute to technology roadmaps and the development of our future product strategies.

This position reports to the Director of Engineering.

Essential Duties and Responsibiliti es:

  • Develop control algorithms for power electronics development of prototype dc-dc converters and ac converters.

  • Develop control algorithms for disciplines outside of Power Electronics.

  • Create new algorithms, embedded firmware, and test specifications.

  • Work with tools such as MATLAB/Simulink for autocode generation.

  • Perform controls testing on bench and in system.

  • Maintain knowledge of current technical state and innovations relative to controls.

  • Contribute to the development of future products and technology roadmaps and strategies.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams for control applications.

  • Mentor and teach less-experienced engineers.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimal Q ualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or directly equivalent degree.

  • 6 years of relevant work experience or advanced degree equivalency in Engineering.

Preferred Q ualifications:

  • Master's Degree or PhD in Engineering or directly equivalent degree.

  • 2 years of experience with power generation products.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Experience in controls development including the area of Power Electronics.

  • Use of simulation tools such as MATLAB/Simulink.

  • Ability to solve complex engineering problems.

  • Strong decision-making skills.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Understanding and experience in physics-based control methodologies.

  • Understanding and experience in observers and state estimation.

Physical Demands : While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; and use hands to manipulate objects or controls. The employee is regularly required to stand and walk. On occasion the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend or reach above the shoulders. The employee must occasionally lift up to 25 - 50 pounds. Specific conditions of this job are typical of frequent and continuous computer-based work requiring periods of sitting, close vision and ability to adjust focus. Occasional travel.
