Global Diving & Salvage Lead Mechanic in West Sacramento, California
Position Description
The Lead Mechanic will report to the Operations Manager and will work closely with the Assets Manager to ensure all regional company assets are maintained to GDS standards. The lead mechanic supervises the team and the shop where repairs occur under the Asset Manager's direction.
Position Essential Job Functions:
Managing Shop Employees:
- Troubleshoot and repair faulty equipment, vehicles, & vessels.
- Load/unload equipment with forklifts and cranes using proper rigging techniques.
- Take an active and lead role in mentoring entry-level mechanics during repairs.
- Perform work on his/her own as well as provide assistance to other employees as directed.
- Oversee each work order to ensure it is properly and quickly completed, or personally repair or replace the equipment.
- Assist with inventory control system by tracking consumables and rolling stock.
- Assist other maintenance personnel with complex orders or when more than one associate is needed to complete the job.
- Provide total group leadership to improve processes for all assigned services continuously.
- Provide leadership to achieve resource utilization, cost attainment, quality, delivery, and cost reduction.
- Uphold and promote Global's safety culture.
Promote shop organization and cleanliness.
General Duties:
- Assist with day-to-day warehouse operations.
- Maintain all equipment, vehicles, and vessels in good working condition.
- Assist with building maintenance.
- Troubleshoot and replace defective parts using hoists, cranes, hand tools, and power tools
- Adjust equipment for optimum use.
- Understands shop equipment and possesses advanced shop environment knowledge
- Participate in all company-provided training.
- Operate and inspect vessels to diagnose problems and/or defects and after repairs.
- Maintain upkeep of work area, materials, and tools.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education
High school diploma or equivalent
Experience
- 4+ years of shop/mechanic experience
- 4+ years of Maritime maintenance experience
Prior experience with fleet maintenance
Knowledge/Skills
- Previous experience working with:
- Diesel and gas engines
- Hydraulics (new builds, troubleshooting, and repairs)
- Electrical (AC and DC power supplies and control circuits)
- Quincy Air Compressors
- Pneumatic and hydraulic tools
- Familiarity with computers and MS Office Suite.
- Must have verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively and professionally with internal and external clients
- Ability to work with a team and independently.
- Ability to proactively identify issues and offer solutions.
- Ability to lift 25-50 lbs. Must be able to stand the following for up to 8-12 hours per day in all weather conditions (Sun, Rain, Sleet, and Snow): stand, walk, push, pull, squat, crouch, bend, stoop, crawl, kneel, climb stairs and ladders; repetitive reaching, repetitive hand use.

- Current GDS mandatory training and other required programs.
