The Opportunity

This position works out of our Westfield IN location, in the Structural Heart Medical Device Division. Our business purpose is to restore health and improve quality of life by designing and providing device and management solutions for treating structural heart disease.

This position is responsible directly and through subordinate managers to oversee specific manufacturing and operations engineering activities.

What You’ll Work On

  • Oversee manufacturing activities of multiple product lines operating on multiple shifts.

  • Coach, manage and develop an immediate staff of managers and engineers.

  • Develop and implement short and long term strategic plans to ensure systems are in place to meet business objectives.

  • Develop, implement, train and monitor systems and procedures to ensure compliance to FDA, GMP and all other applicable agency regulations.

  • Mentor engineering staff on root cause problem solving, data analysis, and other engineering disciplines as needed.

  • Work with Continuous Improvement and other functions to develop effective processes capable of meeting quality, cost and supply chain objectives.

  • Work cross-functionally with R&D, Quality, Clinical, Regulatory and other departments as needed to ensure effective new products transition into production.

  • Develop and maintain solid relationships with all functions of the organization and possesses the ability resolve cross functional issues and appropriately influence these functions.

  • Anticipate and resolve highest level issues and conflicts that could impact operations success.

  • Ensure a safe work environment consistent with OSHA requirements and Abbott policies.

  • Hire and retain a diverse, highly qualified staff and provides ongoing performance feedback.

  • Set goals which align to department plans and manage the execution of goals through coaching and mentoring.

  • Maintain a safe and professional work environment.

  • Support all company initiatives as identified by management and in support of Quality Management Systems (QMS), Environmental Management Systems (EMS), and other regulatory requirements.

  • Comply with U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations, other regulatory requirements, company policies, operating procedures, processes, and task assignments.

  • Maintain positive and cooperative communications and collaboration with all levels of employees, customers, contractors, and vendors.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors’ degree in engineering; mechanical, electrical, biomed or industrial preferred.

  • Minimum 12 years experience in engineering, manufacturing industry.

  • Progressively responsible work experience in a high-volume, multi-product manufacturing environment, preferably in the medical device industry.

  • Demonstrated proficiency and expertise in medical device instrumentation, including electronics experience and hardware/software development.

  • 8+ years of experience leading a team. Significant experience leading and implementing lean manufacturing/Six Sigma initiatives.

  • Experience working in a broader enterprise/cross division business unit model preferred.

  • Ability to work in a highly matrixed and geographically diverse business environment.

  • Strong leadership skills, including the ability to set goals and provide positive and constructive feedback respectfully to build positive relationships and improve business results.

  • Ability to work effectively within a team in a fast-paced changing environment.

  • Strong verbal and written communications with ability to effectively communicate at multiple levels in the organization.

  • Multi-tasks, prioritizes and meets deadlines in timely manner. Strong organizational, planning, and follow-up skills and ability to hold others accountable.

  • Ability to travel, including internationally.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters’ degree

  • Medical Device industry experience highly preferred

The base pay for this position is $127,300.00 – $254,700.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
