Position DescriptionThe Before and After School Program Coordinator is responsible for the overall implementation of the program. The ideal candidate is an effective team leader through their professional conduct and communication. It is the coordinator’s responsibility to ensure the safety of children enrolled in the program as well as to develop and implement daily activities designed to meet their social, emotional, cognitive and physical needs. Essential Functions
Adhere to the Connecticut Code of Professional Responsibility
Ensures safety of students
Implements the Windham Board of Education and administrative policies, rules, regulations and directives
Manage the classroom and individual student behavior to maintain an advantageous learning environment
Prepares lesson plans that achieve clear objectives, uses appropriate techniques, and serves the needs of all learners in the classroom
Maintains accurate and complete records as required
Assess student learning on continual basis and identifies areas of intervention if needed
Follow the scope and sequence of the instructional program as defined and approved by the Windham Board of Education
Maintains respect for confidential information
Keeps parents up-to-date of student progress through use of interim reports, report cards, and/or conferences
Design instruction to meet the needs of all students as needed
Design clear and specific learning assessments
Maintain a positive learning environment that encourages open communication between the teacher and learner
Maintain a positive school community image that encourages ethical student behavior
Maintain ongoing communication with parents
Other duties as assigned by Administrator and/or Superintendent
Other Duties and Responsibilities
Enroll a minimum number of K-5 students in the program by the beginning of each school year
Maintain a “waiting list” of prospective participants so that the program is always serving at least the minimum number of students
Monitor the students’ daily attendance, communicate with parents on a regular basis regarding attendance issues
Send all necessary data in accordance with prescribed timelines (daily attendance, MP grades, parent attendance, teacher surveys, parent surveys, etc.)
Attend PD activities that have been planned by the director and the system wide coordinator and conferences/meetings as required
Conduct interviews for after school positions with the system wide coordinator
Provide orientation at the beginning of a new school year for all assistants
Ensure all staff receive weekly activity plans; place/brief substitutes as needed
Supervise all staff to ensure active involvement, positive discipline, and overall program benefit/effectiveness
Partner with the tutoring coordinator as necessary to ensure students are meeting skill development goals
Maintain current, complete, and accurate staff files (attendance, conduct, discipline, participation, etc.)
Maintain financial statements/enrollment paperwork for every child/family in program
Qualifications
Bilingual(Spanish/English) preferred
Active subject matter certificate as required by the Connecticut State Department of Education
Associate’s Degree required
Prior sufficient leadership experience
Experience working with a diverse student demographic
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Windham Board of Education may find appropriate
