Lead Maintenance Technician - Winston-Salem, NC

Shift: 2nd shift

SUMMARY:

The Lead Maintenance Technician provides leadership and direction to the other maintenance technicians in the department and is responsible for communicating and maintaining established work priorities to the shift employees and for providing continuity of information from shift to shift. The Lead responsibilities are in addition to the employee's responsibilities as a technician in their assigned classification.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:

  • Perform all duties required of the current classification that technician currently holds

  • Serve as working leader; function as Supervisor in his/her absence

  • Establish priorities, assign tasks, coordinate work projects and monitor the work of other maintenance personnel as determined by the Supervisor

  • Responsible for timely response to plant pages and for dispatching technicians appropriately

  • Gather pertinent information from outgoing shift leader/scheduler and provide updated priorities to oncoming shift leader/scheduler

  • Act as liaison to vendors and contractors as needed

  • Inspect the work of other maintenance personnel and contractors and report deficiencies to the supervisor to initiate corrective measures, if needed

  • Maintain maintenance records, as required by Supervisor

  • Requisition and/or purchase supplies, materials, tools, machine parts and other necessary equipment with supervisor approval; initiate purchase orders as requested by supervisor

  • Provide expertise and support in determining machine capabilities for jobs/functions to assist supervisor

when needed

  • Maintain maintenance records, as required by Supervisor

  • Assist in training other maintenance personnel

  • Provide input to supervisor regarding technicians' performance

  • Assure departmental compliance with OSHA and EPA requirements and Company safety rules and safe work practices

  • Respond to, report, remove or correct safety and environmental hazards in the facility

  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Assigned overtime is mandatory

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This job has no supervisory responsibilities, however, may provide direction to and monitor the work of other maintenance staff.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or GED minimum.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and

procedure manuals. May require the ability to write routine reports and correspondence. May require the ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of and strong computer skills.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

Position requires a minimum of 5 years maintenance experience and/or a combination of work experience and relevant education or technical training; ability to lead and coordinate the work activities of self and others, and flexibility in schedule with ability to work different shifts if needed
