The first clinic opened with a doctor and a nurse and began serving the farm workers in the Frostproof community.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Mobile Unit Optometric Technician is responsible for providing direct and indirect patient care in the clinic under the direction and supervision of the Health Center Administrator. The Optometric Technician is expected to conduct pre-screening exams, process patient information and maintain the operation of the examination room. This position requires strong team work and communication skills.

MINIMAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School graduate or GED
  • Graduate of a Medical Assistant Program from an accredited school and/or Optometric Technician Program or equivalent experience
  • BLS Certification
  • Bi-Lingual (English/Spanish) preferred
  • Experience preferred
  • Computer literacy
  • Valid Drivers License if operating company vehicle and be able to get company insurance approval
  • Have dependable transportation as may need to drive personal vehicle to alternate sites

RESPONSIBILITIES AND PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS:may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Be familiar with CFHC's program philosophies, goals and objectives. Be cognizant of and comply with all CFHC's policies and procedures, as well as state and federal regulations.

``` - Be competent in performing the duties of an Optical Technician

``` - Understand the requirements of CFHC's Exposure Control Plan. Personally, utilize universal precautions when practicing in a clinical setting.

``` - Participate in staff outreach and off-site health care programs as requested by the Health Center Administrator, COM or CEO. Represent CFHC in the community.

``` - Report as needed to Health Center Administrator any pertinent information or situations that impact on patient care or CFHC liability.

``` - Report any mechanical issues about the Mobile Unit to HCA

``` - Be willing to work a flexible schedule including early/late shifts as well as weekends

``` - Attend and participate in mandatory CFHC meetings (Center Specific meetings, Corporate meetings, and other meetings as designated by the COO or CEO).

``` - Demonstrate ability to work cooperatively with other members of the patient care team. Be supportive of coworkers.

``` - Maintain a neat and professional appearance at all times.

``` - Be able to drive the mobile unit in a safe manner

``` - Be able to be approved by CFHC insurance carrier to drive the mobile units

``` - Be able to help on the medical mobile unit as a Patient Registration Representative (PRR)

``` - Be able to drive personal vehicle to alternative locations when needed

``` - Carry out any other activities deemed appropriate by the health center administrator, COO or CEO.

``` - Conducts pre-screening exam/testing.

``` - Maintain clean, hygienic work area and exam room.

``` - Completes patient visual history.

``` - Prepares referrals, follow-up paperwork and associated tasks.

``` - Assist in ordering of eyewear and repairs and adjustments of eyewear.

``` - Assist in helping patients select their frames according to their insurance allowance.

``` - Assist in dispensing of eyewear and maintain proper inventory.

``` - Acknowledge/greet patients and process patients in accordance with CFHC's patient flow model.

``` - Knowledge of Athena processes, IDCOP, Sliding Fee Scale, HIPAA, Joint Commission, Medical Record policy, scheduling, patient rights and grievance processes.

``` - Create new patient account. Retrieve established patient accounts from Athena.

``` - Gather pertinent data on all patients: demographics, financial, educational and occupational (migrant/seasonal, other).

``` - Knowledge of verification of insurance coverage, run/check Eligibility obtains authorizations as needed. (Medipass or HMO's)
