COUNTY OF WOOD PartTime Deputy Sheriff/Eligibility List in WISCONSIN RAPIDS, Wisconsin

JOB REQUIREMENTS: PLEASE NOTE: We are currently establishing an eligibility list; therefore, the timeline is unknown. GENERAL FUNCTION To engage in limited law enforcement patrol functions by handling any assignment with the safety of the public and other officers of the Wood County Sheriff\'s Department in mind while performing those duties. The law enforcement powers of the Reserve Deputy Sheriff exist only when on duty, and are not authorized to perform any of these functions unless specifically outlined in training or assigned. RESPONSIBILITIES A. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 1. Operate a law enforcement vehicle while on patrol. React quickly and be able to drive with expertise in situations involving speeds in excess of posted limits, in congested traffic, and in unsafe road conditions (caused by factors such as fog, smoke, rain, ice, snow, etc.). 2. Respond to calls for service by Dispatch or through Shift Commander, in a professional and courteous manner. While on patrol, situations will be witnessed first-hand. Maintain that demeanor while confronted with stressful situations and possibility of being faced with verbal opposition and threats. Provide an adequate resolution to every request. Specific duties shall include, but not be limited to: Traffic accidents. Complete accident investigation and reports as timely as possible. Reports of theft, forgery, and burglary. Make initial investigation and complete reports timely. Complete follow-ups when time permits and when necessitated by circumstances. Fires, as requested and investigate for the possibility of arson. Maintain order in the Wood County Parks, as well as other contracted functions. 3. Investigate: Incidents of criminal damage to property and trespassing. Reserve Deputies shall be expected to check buildings while on patrol and take action to investigate whether or not any illegal behavior is taking place. Sudden deaths. Sex offenses. Reports of disturbances, prowlers, and Chapter 51 cases making appropriate decisions. If a criminal violation is witnessed while on patrol, deputies will be expected to institute an arrest whenever possible. All drug and alcohol complaints, and make proper arrests. Reports of missing persons, and seek to locate such persons. 4. Traffic. Train in the use of radar and operate such radar at times while on patrol. May issue speeding tickets based on violations witnessed while using radar. a) May issue citations when a violation is evident during the investigation of a traffic accident. b) May issue citations when a Reserve Deputy witnessed a traffic violation while on patrol, such as: Operating While Intoxicated (OWI). Passing violations. Failure to yield situations, etc. c) Provide necessary traffic control when warranted. 5. Warrants. Become familiar with current warrants in circulation and work to reduce the number of active warrants. Make arrests on warrants and bring subjects to jail. Investigate to locate the subject of a warrant in an effort to apprehend. 6. Responsible to know and practice the Safety policies of the County. Perform all job tasks in a safe and prescribed manner. B. OTHER JOB DUTIES 1. Court. Respond to subpoenas and appear in court when summoned. Maintain a professional demeanor and cooperate with the Wood County District Attorney to aid in any prosecution. 2. Training. Education and knowledge of laws is a continuous endeavor. Update one\'s knowledge by keeping familiar with current publications of law and decisions, as well as policies and memorandums issued by the Wood County Sheriff\'s Department Administration. Attend training as designated by Administration. 3. Perform any other duties as may be assigned. See posting for complete list of duties. ***** OTHER EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS: *Must be a United States citizen and resident of the State of Wisconsin for one year, be of good reputation, no felony convictions, good health, pass physical agility est, and pass pre-appointment investigation and pre-employment drug screening. *Basic everyday living skills are required, as well as the ability to follow oral and written directions and to make quick decisions and process information based upon limited information. *Must be able to assume responsibility, have management skills, and function calmly in emergency situations. *Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and coherently over law enforcement radio channels while initiating and responding to radio communications. *Read and comprehend what has been read, write legibly, adding, and subtracting are necessary for preparing reports, citations, statutes, maps (figure the shortest distances route between two, points) are needed. ***** APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS: Apply Online: https://careers.woodcountywi.gov/
