Overview:

The Yakima County Civil Service Commission is now accepting applications to form a register of eligible candidates for the position of Program Coordinator II with the Yakima County Sheriff's Office.

This position is responsible for effectively and proactively managing the daily administration of the Search and Rescue program with the Yakima County Sheriff's Office and the planning, developing and implementing and coordinating volunteers of the Yakima County's Sheriff Office's Search and Rescue Program. This position serves as the initial point of contact for the law enforcement and volunteers during an emergency rescue response.

Responsibilities:

Essential Duties:

Coordinates Search and Rescue efforts within Yakima County:  Plans for, prepares for and when necessary, activates the command center in the event of an emergency operation.

Functions as the liaison with Yakima County Department of Emergency Services and other allied agencies as necessary.

Coordinates and responds to after-hours calls.

Functions as Incident Commander until law enforcement arrives to the incident area.

 

Program Administration: Evaluates program performance including: developing and establishing program goals, priorities and delivery strategies; compiling information, analyzing the effects of legislation on the program.

Researches, develops and implements search and rescue policies and procedures for the Sheriff's Office.

Community Liaison: Coordinates, develops and maintains strong cooperative relationships with local, state and federal law enforcement and volunteers and volunteer organizations.

As the liaison for the Sheriff, attends monthly Search and Rescue Counsel meetings and staff meetings as requested.

Speaks to community organizations to raise interest and awareness in the SAR program.

 

Training and Records: As training coordinator, recruits, selects, trains, schedules and monitors staff and volunteers.

Ensures that volunteer search and rescue personnel meet established qualifications in federal guidance and state code.

Maintains training records and schedules training for volunteers in accordance to the type of volunteer work provided. May function as training facilitator.
