BAE Systems Welding Technician in York, Pennsylvania

Job Description

BAE Systems, one of the world's leading defense contractors and a stable Fortune 500 company, is hiring a Weld Engineering Technologist II to support the manufacturing of weapon systems for the military - primarily Army and Marine Corps.

No two days will be the same in our busy union manufacturing environment. In this role, you will communicate with welders, Ops management, program management and the customer. This position will work a 9/80 schedule where you will have every other Friday off.

The role provides technical support for welding operations in the manufacture of combat vehicles.

The Weld Engineering Technologist:

  • Assists in welder qualifications and training. Training will be primarily post school and will focus on hull specific techniques, quality and increased speed of coming down the learning curve.

  • Recommends weld equipment and tracks performance of the same.

  • Trains and executes on weld equipment maintenance/troubleshooting.

  • Trains and implements on safety initiatives (including investigation and RCCA).

  • Executes audits to ensure compliant activity per welding standards and specifications.

  • Has ability to set up, organize, and populate Weld Engineering production information using Microsoft Word, Excel and Project. Immediate focus on Weld Control Software.

  • Supports weld quality RCCA activities.

  • Develops concepts, designs, and modifications to aid in the fabrication of these vehicles

Required Education, Experience, & Skills

  • High school diploma / GED and 6 years of experience working in the welding fabrication industry or the equivalent combination of experience and education (ie 4 yrs and a technical Associates degree).

  • Extensive Experience in GMAW and GTAW welding processes.

  • A background in heavy fabrication with knowledge of both ferrous and non-ferrous materials.

  • Understanding of equipment and technologies relevant to welding and Weld Engineering.

  • Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with internal customers to solve moderately complex technical problems.

  • Excellent understanding of welding specifications such as AWS and Ground Combat.

  • Working knowledge of NDT inspection techniques, processes, and interpretation of results.

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills

  • Associates degree in Weld Engineering or similar field.

  • Certification with AWS as a CWI or other relevant certification (or experience equivalent).

  • Experience interfacing with DCMA, Quality, Engineering and Safety personnel.

  • Experience as a peer trainer in a production weld environment.

Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $70735 - $120250

However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
